Non-yucky toothpaste for babies - does one exist?

Ok, this isn't exactly food but I didn't know where to put it! I was wondering if anyone can recommend a toothpaste for babies that isn't fluorescent pink and full of artificial sweetner? DS is one.

Aside from the health issues I think they taste sickening and DS seems to agree (he has no problem with adult toothpaste but the dentist says these have too much fluoride).

Please tell me if you have discovered a nice-tasting alternative.

theres a great toothpaste by Weleda. i'm not sure of the name, its just called Child Toothpaste i think, and the box it comes in is orange.
Its 100% natural, it tastes mildly of anis (which i can't stand but my dd adores), you dont have to worry if its swalloed because there are no chemicals or anythign synthetic in there.

here

Our dentists have always said adult toothpaste is fine for children. That's what we've always used.

I agree with you that kids' ones are yucky, I would never buy one!

MissGolightly · 10/05/2007 11:41

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm off to google some local stockists!

That's interesting Portonovo, because I'd thought adult toothpaste would be fine too. On the back of our toothpaste it says it's ok for children under 7 provided you used a pea-sized amount or less. I wonder why our dentist said not? I might go back and ask again.

When I went to a talk about baby dental health the dental nurse said adult toothpaste was fine - I may be wrong but I have a feeling its fine if your water dosen't have flouride (which ours dosen't) if it dose I think there may be a chance of over doing it. May be wrong but have a feeling something like this was the reasoning.

MissGolightly · 10/05/2007 12:04

Hmm... I don't think our water is fluorodised...? [wanders off to try googling]

halos and horns toothpaste
from Asda and Sainsbury

Brangelina · 10/05/2007 14:19

I second the Weleda, it's totally free from chemical crap, which is important when they're still tiny and my DD loves the taste.

I never did see the point of getting kids to brush their teeth with bubblegum or neon strawberry, surely that encourages a taste for sweets?

MissGolightly · 10/05/2007 14:29

Apparently a health food shop near me stocks the Weleda so I am off to investigate.

Our sainsburys has approx 10245877 varieties of toothpaste but not Halos and Horns - wonder why not?

As well as the Weleda, Urtekram do a nice one (tastes of fennel) and Green People do a couple. Ask in health food shops, or you can buy online from Green People.

kittypants · 10/05/2007 14:33

we use organic mandarin toothpaste.cant remember who its by.but its yummy

TooTicky · 10/05/2007 20:01

The mandarin is Green People.

Spidermama · 10/05/2007 20:03

Flouride free Kingfisher fennel. (It has SLS in it though.)

kittypants · 10/05/2007 20:17

MissGolightly · 10/05/2007 20:42

Oh my god! Too much choice! DS will just have to have anis one night, fennel the next and mandarin at weekends
