touch-control hob? need advice

Quite new here, in the food section anyway, so hello everyone!
I am thinking to replace my gas hob (can't get a hang of it at all) with a ceramic one and "maybe" touch control.
What are the drawback of touch control? Is it possible to turn it on "accidentally", ie by placing a pan on the controls whilst the hob is on? Any other drawbacks that I need to consider?

I've got an induction one (is that the same as ceramic? ). I hated it at first (was used to gas but we don't have mains gas here), but I've grown to like it now. It heats up and cools down very quickly (but so does gas), and I've never turned it on 'accidentally'. A pan touching wouldn't be enough to turn it on. Mine beeps when you turn it on, off, up or down too. Very easy to clean too.

One downside is that if you spill water on it (very easy to do if a pan boils over), it automatically turns itself off - so annoying if you don't notice.

Like MuffinMclay I have an induction one and it's a fecking nightmare. If you spill anything on it, it beeps for two minutes and locks you out (which includes turning off the heat so your food gets ruined). If you press the wrong combination of buttons (as a child would) it turns itself off, beeps for two minutes and locks.

It's a PITA. But it does look remarkably stylish and modern and clean (mostly because I can't figure out how to use it properly!)

thank you Muffin and Whomoved.., I am still thinking, your comments help me to decide, I was certainly better at controlling induction (slot-in) than gas. I appreciate a comment about the beeps and switching off at spills.
thanx again

My Mil has one and I HATE it - i get infuriated with it almost every time I use it. It does the turn off water thing, it beeps all the feckign time, if its been off for a while, you have to caress the whole bloody hob before it will switch on

DH turned it on by putting a pan on it too, btw

Oh and when I was pregnant the SHADOW of my bump made it's alarms go off and lock up. Definitely it is the spawn of satan machine!

many thanks all, I am very grateful for your feedback.
I have decided against the touch-control, I couldn't bear the bleeping, even the wash/mach drives me nuts. I also realised that what I really liked about my old electric slot-in was the automattic pilot approach, knowing w/o thinking what buttons heat what.
So it will be electric with manual controls in the front, but slightly to the right.
thank you again
