TIA

i would say as soon as they get their first teeth. i have given them to my ds1 and ds2 since about 7/8 months onwards. they love them, especially when you give them the little boxes of raisins.

DD is 20 months and has been having raisins for a good year now. Both dd and ds love them. They both call the little boxes sweets which is great as I'd much rather they eat raisons to sweets. The little boxes are great to pop in your bag and you bon't get a sticky mess like you do with sweets.

My ds used to get them from around 7mo. It was great practice for the fingers. But I remember until he got really good with chewing finger foods I used to buy the very soft sultanas and squish them flat between my fingers before giving them to him, so there was pretty much nothing left for him to do except swallow! Gradually he moved away from squished ones, to larger soft ones, and finally onto hard ones of all sizes! [yes, I did actually look at every packet for squishiness before buying!! lol]

Sun-Maid Raisins are the best as they dont have hydrogenated oil glaze like some of the bigger baking packs.

my dd chewed them happily from about 7 months but spat out a bit afterwards, now 21 mths she east them like sweties and dried apricot too!
I get organic ones, they seem a lot softer.

Don't get digested under about the age of 2yo... judging by the nappies, because they don't get chewed up?? So I wouldn't bother below 2 again, probably.

I think I might start trying DS (8 months) on raisins now!

ds found raisins tricky until about 10 months when I bought Sainsburies blue parrot jumbo ones. Once he got the hang of munching the big ones, we progressed to the wee ones pretty quickly! HTH.

Mine had raisins as soon as they started lumpy solids...way before teeth. They would just suck on them. I used them instead of sweets as treats.

SofiaAmes · 04/08/2004 19:19

Make sure you check the ingredients because some of them are coated with oils and other things. The California Sun Maid (?) are totally pure.

Thanks all. GAve dd sunmaid raisins and she loved them. Ate about 20 actually and no lunch .

DD has always adored raisins and has had them from way before she got teeth. Mond you that wasn't until 13 months and by then she could eat almost anything regardless. LOL!

Her fave ones now are the yoghurt coated ones from Holland & Barrett - probably coated in sugar I know! But she likes them and thinks they are a real treat, and they have to be better than sweets anyway.
