Stocking up the freezer for a new mum

My friend was getting induced this morning (first baby) and I'm just hoping everything's going well for them and waiting for the announcement from her dh.

She only wants close family to visit in hospital so I likely won't see her for at least another week and I was thinking about doing some cooking for her to stick in the freezer for easy meals. My sil made lasagne in individual foil trays for us and it was great!

Any ideas for useful things to make? Are individual portions the best way to go?

cottage pie, chilli, erm.....

soup ... homemade much nicer than cans and easy to heat back up when it inevitably goes cold ...

Easy food that you can eat with one hand with child on your shoulder!
Food that can stay in oven and be reheated if necessary as meal times will be disrupted
About a year's worth if possible!

shepherds pie
lasagne
lentil and barley soup
casseroles
veggie chilli
cauiflower cheese

Minestrone, bolognese sauce, fish pie, sausage casserole...

Single portions of some nice vegetable soups would also be good for when she is back on her own and needs something to eat onehanded.

Realise it's not quite what you're asking for but if she has a hand held blender, a large bag of frozen berry and/or tropical fruits, a few cartons of fruit juice, some bananas and a couple of tubs of plain yogurt will mean she's able to make fruit smoothies at the drop of a hat. I made the mistake of filling up with sandwiches after dd1 but paid the price with dire constipation - smoothies should help avoid this as well as top up her vitamins. All the best to your friend and here's to you for being so considerate

Thanks for the suggestions. My friend had a little girl! I'll get cooking...

That's good news, and she has a lovely friend like you to help her.

Taking williwonka's idea further, if friend doesn't have a hand held blender, get one from somewhere like tesco (they're about five pounds) and some fruit too She can make smoothies and milkshakes, and when weaning comes about she's got the blender too

Individually portioned foods in trays are a lifesaver too. For the first few months of my daughter's life there was rarely a meal whereby everyone in the house ate at the same time, and it's nice to be able to eat your food while it's hot
