Cost of ingredients

Since working from home and buying myself a Kitchenaid I’m doing lots more baking than ever and have also started to bake my own bread. I do find if more costly than buying bread and cakes from the supermarket (although obviously the quality is far better), so I’m wondering where all of you keen bakers buy your ingredients from? I feel like there must be somewhere I can bulk buy the basics?
Also a side question- how do you store ingredients? Do you decant them into containers?

I buy bigger sizes of things I use a lot - caster sugar in 2kg bags for example. I don't bulk buy flour unless I know I'll use it quickly (fear of weevils lol). I do buy with offers, so if I know I'll use a particular ingredient I'll bulk buy when it's on offer.
Have a look for a local wholesaler, but you might find that the joining fee adds too much to the overall cost. I'd love to buy from Costco, but the nearest one to me is over an hour away, so by the time I factor in the cost of petrol, time and membership it's just not worth it.
I don't decant because it becomes difficult to track use by dates and batch numbers, which if you bake to sell you need to know.
I buy from Lidl and Aldi where I can - basics like flour, sugar, eggs etc are cheaper and the quality is fine. I bought fondant from Lidl at Christmas and it was better than my normal brand, but unfortunately they've not had it in since.
You might find a hidden gem locally though - I discovered a sweet wholesaler near me and they are fab around Easter and Christmas. They are so helpful even though by their standards I only buy small quantities (eg 5kg bag of mini eggs).

Thank you, I'm the same with Costco - too far away to be cost effective. I'm wondering about buying eggs directly from a farm, the trays seem good value and we use lots. I've got a mill nearby too but I suspect the flour will be more than Morrisons. I don't sell and nothing hangs around long enough to worry about use by dates, I just find my cupboards have always got a coating of flour and sugar!

I line some of my shelves with kitchen roll or greaseproof paper. I'm lucky though because I have a proper larder, so I tend to have big storage boxes that hold packs of flour, sugar etc. I keep all my essences in a small box because even if you wipe them they still get sticky, then the box goes in the dishwasher. I keep everything in it's original packaging though because I do bake to sell so I have to be able to track.
Go and see your mill, they might be happy to sell to you and you could get some really interesting flours :)
