Slow cooker is too big - can I put bowl in there???

I have a giant slow cooker which is normally perfect but today I'd like to do a slow cook gammon but it's quite a small joint and will need litres and litres of coke which seems a waste.

Can I put a smaller ceramic bowl in the normal bowl and just use that or won't it get to the right temperature??

What did you do in the end? When I have small amounts to cook which are not suitable for the slow cooker I tend to revert back to putting a covered casserole dish in the oven on a low temperature.

No I wouldn’t do that. Either put it in the oven or use as little coke as necessary just keep an eye on it so it doesn’t go dry.

I do porridge in slow cooker most days in a lidded bowl inside the main cooker. It's totally fine. Must have its own lid though - or you'll get condensation pooling in main cooker. I use an ancient Pyrex casserole dish & lid.

I did it in a normal pan and just boiled in water rather than coke.
