we are stuck in a rut and I need new ideas . I have a 6 and 2 year old so I would prefer simple ingredients if possible.

Jamie Oliver '5 ingredients' or 'Everyday Superfood'
Tana Ramsey's 'Family Kitchen'
I use Annabel Karmel's website a lot and BBC Good Food

Jamie Oliver's Superfood Family Classics (not the same as Everyday Superfood, which I don't have so can't comment on) is absolutely brilliant. In a week I've made 7 recipes and they've all been fantastic. The Chicken Jalfrezi was a particular highlight.

If you're trying to change your family's diet to make it healthier, but not frighten the horses too much, this is the way to go. I will admit that some of the recipes are a little fiddly, but totally worth the time and effort. I think I got the book at Sainsburys for £7, which is a real bargain.

With kids the age of yours I would maybe try this one which is easy to follow and family friendly. It has some good ideas for main meals, snacks and packed lunches and provides some good nutritional info etc. I haven’t used it for a little awhile as mine are now at secondary school but I used it until a couple of years ago. If I remember it had some nice easy, tasty and family friendly meals in. It also had a really nice chicken soup recipe in that everyone liked, and I always made this in the winter and when anyone was feeling under the weather.

Another cookbook in the "family" genre that I love is Apples for Jam by Tessa Kiros. All the recipes are very kid-friendly, but at the same time it's not bland nursery pap at all.

Apples for jam is beautiful! A really comforting family focused book

I have high hopes of this one. The student cookbook in this series is great.

I’m a cook-book addict and have far too many, but this one’s my favourite for general family meals. Loads of easy great recipes, only bought it on a whim to get my Book People order high enough to get free delivery, but it’s now a favourite!

gerbo · 23/02/2018 20:10

Fay Ripley's first one is really good - "fay's family food". I also second the netmums one- we had the beef stew from in there tonight!
