Looking for really good slow cooker recipes

Have recently invested in a Morphy Richard's SC and am really disappointed with the taste! I'm quite a good cook but bought the SC to save time during the week as we were eating too late.
I also bought a bbc slow cooker book but the sauces have tasted bland and watery and the sweet spiced cabbage was foul and stank the house out for a week.
Would love to hear from.anyone who has found a few staple meals thst work well, meat and veggie. They need to be 8-hour recipes because I'm out at work. Thanks

I never bother browning the meat it feels pointless but I do love slow cooked joints. I love putting it on on a weekend morning, dragging the kids for a character building walk in the woods and getting back to That Smell. And the fight with DKs over not wanting to eat it but that's another story ...

I also use mine for infusing oils. You can do hippy herbal oil infusions or garlic, chilli, basil etc. Pop whatever you want the flavour of into a bottle or jar of olive oil sitting in water and leave for a few hours. Chilli oil on pizza anyone? Nom nom.

oils sound like a great idea - I did try caramelised onions and they were vile - boiled onions are really not pleasant!

This is one of the best and tastiest things I've had from a slow cooker, my mum makes it. Lush www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/pulled-firecracker-brisket.

feenie thanks for sharing your Jamie stew. There's a half bottle of wine in there which seemsnormal fur the oven but a lot of liquid for a slow cooker. Did you modify the recipe for your machine?

My kids loved Nigella's slow cooker pasta. We used to do it on days they were in late from training. It seems very watery when you make it but you put the pasta in for the final 20-30 minutes and it absorbed the moisture.

No, don't usually modify this one - I sometimes do the last half hour with the lid off though.

Almost I did the pulled pork last night and made the sauce. Served with brioche buns and salad. Really really delicious.

I did a beef stew yesterday which was delicious.

300g stewing beef cubed
2 carrots
2 sticks of celery
An onion
5/6 mushrooms
2 tbsp flour
100ml wine
240ml stock
Bunch of thyme and a bay leaf

Chop everything to roughly equal size.
Put in sc.
add 2 tbsp flour and mix to coat.
Add liquid and herbs. Salt and pepper.
Cool on low for 8 hours

It was a bit watery even with the flour added earlier, but I added suet dumplings for 20mins and they absorbed it and were delicious as a result.

I often make a batch of dumplings, rolled into balls and frozen- they can be chucked in from frozen and are good for thickening sc stews (and taste great/ remove the need to make mash )

Alternatively adding a tablespoon of oats thickens almost anything and they can't be distinguished at all. Or red lentils.

I find red lentil dhal is fine to leave for 8 hours and tastes lovely. Same with lamb kleftico.

I'll give the pulled pork a go :)
