What are your top five cook books?

I have been collecting cookery books for years and have around 250. I love them but I've run out of space so am in the process of getting rid of the ones I rarely use. There are some that I constantly use and never tire of, although coming up with a top 5 is difficult, I think the following would be on my list: How to Eat by Nigella, Apples for Jam by Tessa Kiros, Every Grain of Rice by Fuschia Dunlop, Food from Plenty by Diana Henry and River Cottage Every Day. I also love Nigel Slater but it would be too difficult to choose just one of his books! Would love to have some recommendations for other indispensable books for when I've got some space on my shelves again Grin

A book that I used to use a lot, but gave away to a friend and have regretted it since, was Finger Food for Babies and Toddlers by Jennie Maizels. It had lots of things that were good for the whole family and the best tomato sauce that I've ever made which was useful for lots of other dishes.

I also used to use the Susan Reimer book Muffins Fast and Fantastic all the time, but I'm low carb these days so don't anymore. It is the bees knees for muffins though.

Purchased...just need them to turn up when I am working from home so I can sneak them into the house. Buying second hand also makes them look like they have always been there!

Cousinit, probably had around the 500 ish mark way to many!

If your looking for Japanese books heres one to get started by
Shizuo Tsuji , called Japanese cooking , simple art.

Also Elizabeth Andoh, Recipes from Japanese home kitchen, have a few ramen bboks as well but Im not at home to get all the titles, Oh and a one called something like from a Japanese Farm.

For those who like Indian cookery books can I recommend,
Vikas Khanna, Flavours first and My first kitchen. And another ....cannot remember at the moment

Another good go to for quick Indian meals which only use 6 ingredients or less is Indian in 6 by Monisha Bharadwaj

Alltheyummyfood, I am going to try and Google that squash recipe. I have a 6kg squash and I am bored of all my usual ones.

Thanks for the suggestions Toodamhottoday. Japanese food is underrepresented in my collection so I will be checking those out. I think the farmhouse one is already on my to-buy list.

I have got rid of about a dozen books so far Everythingstaken but will be rapidly replacing them thanks to this thread Blush. Have just got myself a copy of A Bird in the Hand. I so love Diana Henry's books. Once again I want to cook every single thing in there but sadly most wouldn't pass the taste test with the kids (apart from the toddler who will eat anything). Maybe I will just feed the other two beans on toast while DH, toddler and I work our way through the book.

Cousinit, it can be addictive!

As Im not in the UK I have only a handful of books here, and really not worth me bringing my faves over. Now way can I get most of the ingredients, so best not to torture myself.

But I can get plenty Asian ingredients, but soon get bored ...However have a large stash of dried Japanese ingredients!

Might be a while before I get round to making it. I'm not in the UK and there are a few things I might not be able to get hold of locally. I always like to do recipes word for word first before I faff about with them. Saying that is the ginger a strong flavour in it?

All of my faves have been mentioned, except:
Little Paris Kitchen, by Rachel Khoo
I’ve cooked so much from her lovely book, but her winter salad with goats cheese swirls is now part of my brain!
