The Lunchables claim (on home page)...

"The new Dairylea Lunchables range is just the thing to liven up lunchtime. Nutritionally comparable to a homemade ham and cheese sandwich, the new, improved range now has 34% less saturated fat, 32% less fat, 9% less salt, and no artificial colours or flavours."

Really as good as a ham and cheese sandwich?

I mean, we have tried a couple of these before when stuck out and about with very limited choice. It was the easiest thing to grab hold of at the little shop. But I am not convinced. DD wasn't impressed and would have far preferred a real sandwich. Won't be buying again.

Is the claim right - is it really as nutrious as a real sandwich? I just can't see it.

Depends whether they are comparing to nice ham and nice cheese perhaps

NotQuiteCockney · 27/04/2007 09:00

Um, it says 'nutritionally comparable', which presumably means, 'can be compared to'. I'd guess the result of the comparison is 'no, ham and cheese sandwich is beter for you'.

SueW · 27/04/2007 09:01

Well spotted NQC. Doesn't say 'nutritionally on a par with'

WideWebWitch · 27/04/2007 09:03

I can't see it and would like to see the back up for this, we should ask for it.

I wouldn't buy lunchables, ewww.

WideWebWitch · 27/04/2007 09:04

Nutritionally comparable is a weaselly phrase isn't it?

Hulababy · 27/04/2007 09:05

That's true NQC.

Well, it's a normal phrase for advertising. Like 'up to' and 'as much as'.

Oblomov · 27/04/2007 09:09

I find it hard to believe. Come, their rank. Comparable to proper ham , from the tesco deli, and a proper, slice of Davidstow ? Yeah, right.

Hulababy · 27/04/2007 09:10

Yes, must be comparing it to thin, cheap white bread, dodgy ham and cheesestrings!

Also depends on what ham and cheese they are comparing it too. If its Basic thin cut slimy ham and them prewrapped cheese slices and basic plastic white bread then it probable about the same I should think.

I've never had one tho so cant really say.
