Fruit & veg intake

How much fruit & veg would you say you eat per day? I'm generally not too bad but I do find the atleast 5 portions per day hard sometimes. A typical day for me would be banana in morning, a fruit salad at lunch (on a good day) and then one or two veg with tea but that's not always the case.

Me and dh will be ttc soon and I'm really wanting to make sure I'm getting my eating right for when hopefully pregnant and long term when we have dc so I am feeding them as much fruit & veg as possible.

How much would you say you have and do you have any tips on easy ways to introduce more into your diet?

I couldn't afford (and to be honest wouldn't want to) eat as much veg as you little concerned. But you must have so many benefits with all those nutrients! Good for you.

I aim for 2 at breakfast
3 at lunch
4 for dinner - all in veg as I was told that fruit isn't as good and since the 10 a day introduction, where veg is focussed, I find it the easiest way.

This has the natural consequence of lowering white carbs. So I'll replace the chips on a meal with broccoli. Replace roast potatoes with parsnips.

Typical day would be

Breakfast- fried leeks and kale with feta on toast / griddles broccoli and radish flatbread

Lunch- vegetable soup with beetroot and parsnip peel crisps on top. A handful of cherry tomatoes or radishes / three bean salad

Dinner- chicken breast roasted with carrots, beetroot, and parsnips. Peas on the side / cottage pie with parsnip and swede mash topping 40% meat to 60% veg ratio in the filling. Peas on the side.

But that changes through the seasons depending on the contents of the veg box

I can not remember the last time I was ill. Seriously!

Hair and skin and nails in very good condition.

It really is incredible, the benefits of a veg/fruit heavy diet.

I thought it was 7 not 5. And only 1-2 should be fruit. I eat 7 a day and I currently have an appalling diet. Salads, beans, smoothies, soups, etc

LolitaLempicka · 24/01/2018 05:20

Sorry, I am not implying salads etc are an appalling diet, just that I eat healthy stuff alongside my own appalling diet.

God this thread is so depressing but also inspiring! I am going to try harder to eat better, 5 a day is lucky for me!!

I forgot I had this thread but thanks all for replying. Some good tips, I have been thinking of a nutribullet for a while now.

10 seems like it could be a stretch for me. Today for example I've had a banana, orange at breakfast. Peppers and brocolli with my lunch and some pineapple afterwards and another two veg with tea. I also prefer veg so maybe I need to concentrate more on that and def go back to crudités and dip as a snack. It's made me think in the grand scheme I'm not horrendous but definitely room for improvement!

Same. Five is fine. Seven I can sometimes do. Ten - that would be hard to do ten different fruit/veg!

As many as possible.

Today : musroom omlette and a pear, lunch big salad of lettuce, pepper, toms, gherkins and sardines followed by banana. Dinner pasta and cabbge topped with a sauce of tomatoes, peppers, leek and cashew nuts. Fruit after.

Start with veg as the building point for eah meal helps.
