So far this year I’ve tried three and they’ve been real hits:

Sausage pasta with broccoli chilli and sweet tomatoes - from Jamie’s Super Food Family Classics

Thai Green Coconut Mussels - from Ocado magazine

Spiced red lentil soup - from Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chronicles

Next to try is Waitrose magazine Spiced Apple Pie Porridge

What have you tried recently or are going to give a whirl soon?

I made this a couple of weeks ago. It was really nice (with some extra spice).

Taffeta- you can't go wrong with any of them. It's a brilliant book and my go to for Indian recipes. It's worth searching the old mumsnet cookbook club posts for the made in India months. It was covered more than once (I was cooking on gas/ pregnant pause when they ran)

I'm going to make a proper cheese, potato and onion pie with pastry. Just browsing for a great recipe.

got the new Good Food magazine and have already made the soda bread twice. Can't believe how easy it is and I've never made any kind of bread before. Also made the egg free lemon cake from same edition - incredibly light to the point of being fragile, but delicious. Personally I would use a bit less sugar than stated. Today have made a veggie base for tomorrow's shepherd's pie with green lentils and veg. Another Good Food recipe. Carnivore DS is already turning his nose up but we will see how it tastes.

I’m working my wat through Made in India!

So far....

Spinach and tomato with paneer
Chicken and coriander samosas
Pav Bhaji

All stunning!

Taffeta- It's a wonderful book- make sure to explore the chutneys too! The coriander chutney and quick tomato chutney are both amazing.

This week I'm using Nigel Slater kitchen diaries 2 - roast duck with apple, prune and clementine stuffing. Anyone with the book should give it a go. The stuffing itself isn't fab- but when added to the gravy and blended, makes for the most delicious gravy ever!

Then I'm going to make a duck soup tomorrow with the carcass- I'm a little worried about this because of any residual sweetness from the stuffing, but I can't see a duck carcass go waste.

I'm amazed you didn't like Tom's chicken 😮 did you marinate overnight? We thought it was bloody delicious - have been telling everyone who'll listen

Taffeta · 21/01/2018 22:22

foodie - yes marinaded it for 24 hours. I liked it, as did DS, but DH & DD found it average.,

It’s finding that Holy Grail dish everyone loves!!

Ohhh ok. Maybe we were just ravenous 😂

I tried Jamie Oliver's lemon possets with star shortbread for Xmas pudding and it was divine. Very silky and light. I would recommend after a heavy Sunday roast or even in the summer after a bbq.

The baker brothers toad in the hole is the best toad in the hole ever and I won't be trying another recipe because it's 'the one Grin

BBC good food pork green beam and oyster stir fry is very nice too

Got Sabrina Ghayour's new cookbook Feasts for Christmas - really recommend it! Great recipes, including 'sticky spicy aubergines' and harissa-infused lamb leg.
