lunch ideas for flask

Ilovecakeallday · 08/01/2018 17:05

Hello, my 9 year old had asked if she could take hot food in a flask for lunch (allowed at school) but I am lacking inspiration.... So far have soup.

Does anyone have any other ideas? We eat everything. Thanks

If you don't mind I am following this for myselfSmile

You can buy decent packet soups these days with noodles, or croutons, which are filling, especially with a roll or cheese sandwich. Easy to make in the morning.

Pasta meals survive well in a flask, esp if it's one of the wider 'pot meal' flasks. (Instant or home-made.)

Also stews / casseroles are good - you nuke them in the microwave before putting in the flask. Again, add a roll or sandwich.

You my favourite, and my DD's, was always tomato soup with bread & butter!

Though my favourite

Pasta Bolognese is nice

OohOohMrPeevly · 08/01/2018 17:21

Mine used to be ask for baked beans in the flask and then (separately) some cold brown toast and a separate little pot of butter which she spread herself at school. The beans warm up the toast nicely.

When mine were younger and I was a better parent I'd sometimes give them leftovers (cold meat/cold Yorkshires etc) in a box with a flask of hot gravy.....those were the days......they (really) loved me on those hot dinner days. Grin

Leftover spag bol was another favourite (pasta and sauce combined).

In one of those wide neck food flasks (ours was from Ikea and specially for children with an easy to open lid like a tap so they could unscrew it easily).

Cooked sausages - send a roll and instant lunch hotdogs.

Not sure if they still do them - just found it on ebay in America!

I do chilli and rice in mine.

mumpoints · 08/01/2018 17:34

Yes, rice dishes. Plus any sort of casserole or stew, macaroni cheese, and other pastas.

StoatofDisarray · 08/01/2018 17:35

Risottos are nice in a flask :)

Fekko · 08/01/2018 17:38

I bought a short fat one, and you can put all sorts in it! I’ve had rice with curry/chilli, minestrone (and thick veggie) soup, pasta... it keeps it nice and warm too (I even burned my tongue on the minestrone).

kateandme · 08/01/2018 18:36

one pot rice dishes.
dolmio,frankfurt pasta
bolognase but use fusilli so you can mix it together to go in flask and heat easier than if doing with spaghetti
surprisingly it keeps stuff cold too so weve done pasta salads and couscous salad in there.
mac and cheese
meatballs and send with a rolld for meatball subs
cut up bakes potato and add chilli on top.
stir frys with noodles on the bottom
weve sent leftover lasagne too.just chop into bitesize pieces.
stew and add little dumplings to the top just before you det off or take in separate bag
chilli and let them take a sep bag of doritos to have with it.
pearl barley beefo stew
little lamb coftas and take a pitta
baked beans tomato and sausages and take slices of bread to mop it up
tuna sweetcorn cheesy pasta bake
pocket pies cut in half and wrapped in greaseproof.same with pasties.

kateandme · 08/01/2018 18:39

oh my dad take leftoever roast lol.so stuffing on the bottom then roasties.then meat slices and veggies on top.pours over gravy.not sure how popular this is to anyone but my dad!!

RatRolyPoly · 08/01/2018 18:40

Got one of these for Christmas - following!

georgedawes · 08/01/2018 18:43

Does pasta stay nice in the flask? For some reason I thought it might go a bit weird.

Baked potatoes are a big hit here, also we often do the leftovers from a roast dinner. Sometimes send in desert instead, apple crumble is a favourite.

Fekko · 08/01/2018 18:45

Pasta is fine if it’s cooked al dente as keeping it warm can make it go mushy.

kateandme · 08/01/2018 19:06

jam roly poly and custard is also a favourite!

kateandme · 08/01/2018 19:08

fajitas,wraps taken separately.
ramen

mumpoints · 08/01/2018 21:52

ooh yes, ramen!
