My ds likes tuna fish. What one is the best one? Brine, sunflower oil, water or olive oil?
Also, apart from with sweetcorn, does anybody have any ideas what goes well with tuna? any little recipies? Thanks

hi
tuna pasta bake went down well with my ds. white sauce, pasta, tuna, sweetcorn (broccoli or any other vegs if you like). mix it all together. put in a dish , grated cheese on top, under the grill for afew minutes. it's lovely for adults too. use small pasta shapes then you won't need to chop it up at all.

i'd go for pasta in springwater.

enjoy!

definatly not brine...way to salty for children, any of the others should be fine.

fish 3 times a week is government reccomended amount. (mixture of different fish is best).

as for omega 3/fish oil you need to use other forms of oily fish, or fresh tuna...tinned tuna has little or no omega 3.

sorry no recipes as i'm a veggie, and dh will only eat fish fingers...wont look at any other fish!

i sometimes make my ds1 tuna salad, using tin of tuna, chopped apples, raisins and hazlenuts. i would think tuna in olive oil is the healthiest option or even better buy fresh though both of these options are the more expensive.

Thanks ladies, these sound great. What is oily fish?

tuna, salmon, mackeral, herring, sardines - all high in omega

I've done the tuna melt but with natural yoghurt -you could do it with creme fraiche or fromage frais too. DD loves it, though often just picks off the tuna and eats it with her fingers.

Also, mix tuna with creme fraiche/fromage frais/yoghurt etc. and pasta. Or do the same and add a tomato/veg sauce (onions, garlic, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, courgettes, etc.). It's a good family meal too.

How old is your ds? As tuna has the highest mercury content compared to the other 'oily' fish you should limit or not give at all if he is under 1yr (or so my childrens cook book says!) HTH

joanneg · 29/07/2004 12:02

Karen - he is 2. Is it ok for him to eat it? Blimey mercury?! I am worried now.

It's totally off the subject but my dh has a bug bear about people calling it tuna fish - he says that we don't say cod fish or plaice fish or carrot vegtable so why say tuna fish instead of just tuna!!!

I do it now just to irritate him
