What do you normally eat on NYE and NYD? Do you have any traditions? I'm just curious to see what other people do for those?

We usually have something related to a country we went to on holiday in the last year.

So last year we had Italian New year with lentils and cotechino sausage and some sort of traditional Roman cake.

This year its Spain and roast lamb with some traditional biscuity things.

Usually host NYE, so tend to do a buffet of sorts, seafood platter, topped flatbreads, garlic mushrooms, crudités, dips, antipasti etc
New Year’s Day will be fish of some kind. Not sure what yet but light with plenty of veg.

New Year’s Day is always steak pie dinner (we’re in Scotland and it’s tradition).

Hogmanay this year we’re having pulled pork and buffet style food, sometimes we do pizza or takeaway anything relaxed and easy.

We usually do a buffet on NYE with party food and just afew nibbles as we have drinks and relax. NYD we have a dinner similar to Christmas Day except alittle lighter. We don't have turkey if had that Christmas Day and tend to have a different meat (this year we're having a lattice filled type thing.) We have a nice dessert afterwards as we do on Xmas day but again something different. We usually pull the left over crackers as well.

NYE I'm doing a cooked brunch after church, so grilled bacon, poached eggs, potato scones and possibly mushrooms for DH (food of the devil). Oh and beans of course. Never usually have brunch/lunch on a Sunday as we have a Sunday roast about 3pm.

We have friends coming over in the evening for a very informal NYE buffet (and TV watching) which will involve crusty breads, a couple of cheeses, some cold gammon (doing it today in the slow cooker) and the usual suspects of pork pie, mini scotch eggs, coleslaw, etc with some chopped veggies and a dip for some colour. They are bringing frozen desserts (mini profiteroles etc).

NYD we are having a rib of roast beef and all the trimmings.

Agree - steak pie on NYD (I'm Scottish). We don't always have it though, and when we don't I feel like I'm being rebellious!

Food varies on Hogmanay though and depends on who's eating with us.

I love your idea Hulder ! I might steal it.

We don't have anything special, usually buffet / party type food on NYE in front of the telly and then normal food on NYD.

What do you have if you haven't been on holiday the last year? Sad
