I love this sort of food. Sounds fab but I'd maybe swap out one of the red dips for a yogurt/mint/cucumber one.

TheKitchenWitch · 29/12/2017 12:05

Labneh is a thick yogurt-cheese dip.
The only real problem I have is that I would like to make the meatballs very spicy but not everyone eats hot. So I thought I'd do a really spicy tomoato sauce to dip them in, but so the non-spicers also get a "red" dipping sauce, I'm doing the red pepper one.
Am I over think this? :D

I'd want to do something like the chicken dish that is vegetarian...maybe just roast some peppers, courgette and aubergine to eat with the couscous. Otherwise, all the vegetarian can eat is falafel, pitta and dips.

TheKitchenWitch · 29/12/2017 12:06

The cheese board later is obviously not very middle eastern, but we all just love cheese so after midnight if anyone fancies anything I figured they can either pick at buffet or have the cheese.

Nothing useful to add but drooling.... that sounds amazing!

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/12/2017 12:27

It sounds lovely, but I'd make the tagine veggie, then the meat eaters can have the meatballs too.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 29/12/2017 12:28

You need some baklava.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/12/2017 12:35

I was eating baklava just last night, bought it as Sainsbos had run out of stollen

TheKitchenWitch · 29/12/2017 12:50

I don't have the time & energy to make baklava, although I know it would be perfect.

Could you do mahallabiya or umm Ali for pudding? It all sounds divine by the way although i second roasting some veggies so the vegetarian can have couscous too.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 29/12/2017 13:02

Not enough for a veggie - maybe sambosek with cheese?
Tabbouleh is a mainstay at any middle-eastern buffet I've been to.
I like bamya/okra in tomato sauce.

Hulder · 29/12/2017 20:41

Sounds great. Agree would be nice to have at least one Middle Eastern pudding, doesn't need to be baklava I would buy this from Lidl

Mahallabiya (multiple spellings on google) is easy to do, doesn't need obscure ingredients and can be served in individual glasses.

Thanks for the ideas! Googling to see what’s doable without having to brave the shops again....Grin
