mrsjohnsimnelcake · 21/04/2007 17:32

sad but true
i soak and cook chick peas and then freeze them

i am now using some of the frozen chick peas directly into a recipe and heating them through with other ingredients, is making a curry with some squash

can i then freeze the curry?

i just don't know how the cooking and freewzing thing works

thanks in advance

Yes, if they have been cooked thoroughly then frozen they should be fine.

haha, I don't think that's sad - I am soaking some chick peas right now.
I always thought that you ought not defrost food and then refreeze it. Having said that I probably would with something like chick peas - as opposed to fish or offal or something. Then just make sure it is really properly heated through when you come to eat it.

But why not freeze the curry without the chick peas and then just add them when you actually want to eat it?

yes you can.

Infact freezing and defrosting pulses seems to make them break doan a bit more - great in curries and stuff and if they are a bit hard.

My friend kept a bag of frozen cooked lentils in her freezer and chucked a handful into any recipe that could take it.
