I think there was a post on this somewhere before but didn't read it at the time. Thing is someone gave ds some of their nutella sandwich in school and now ds wants me to get it for him, is it a big no no food?

I have given the DC cadburys choc spread sandwich as occasional treats. Dont think would give it every day also suppose it depends what the school is like

foxinsocks · 21/04/2007 15:47

as long as it's not a nut-free school (mine eat it at breakfast time sometimes)

ChippyMinton · 21/04/2007 15:47

previous thread here Mumsnet in favour IIRC

I work on the assumption that there is no 'no no' food. When ds was younger, he had a party, one of the attendees was forbidden cakes, chocs etc, with the fab result that, as soon as everybodys back was turned, he wolfed down as much sugary stuff as he could get his hands on and promptly ended up throwing up all over the floor! Some things are better in moderation, nutella being one of them, yes, with the previso, of course that it contains nuts so wouldn't give it to a anaphylatic.

JARM · 21/04/2007 15:48

As a treat I see no harm.

Jessica loved it when I bought some for pancake day, and once it was gone, it was gone.

I havent replaced it, and dont intend to for a while.

glassslipper · 21/04/2007 15:49

yuk.

i'd be interested to know the MN take on jam sandwiches as my DD has just decided they are the best thing ever???

kookaburra · 21/04/2007 15:50

Shocked to hear it was a child's
lunchtime sandwich - doesn't the school have a no choc or crisps policy? Would deffo not give for a meal - would offer it occasionally as a pudding maybe, after the main meal and fruit - with all the nutritious possibilities for a sandwich why on earht would anyone think it okay to put in a luchbox?

Mhamai · 21/04/2007 15:50

Not a nut free one afaik, a crisp free but not nut free one, gosh must check actually though to be sure. When did parenting become so fraught with all these shoulds/shouldnt's.
So basically, a treat but not as often as marmalade etc?

rantinghousewife I am off the same attitude aswell. I dont ban anything here just limit the amount that can be had. Everything in moderation.....well unless it is for us

Mhamai · 21/04/2007 15:53

There is a no choc policy also.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 21/04/2007 15:53

I reckon it's fine in a sandwich. Nuts are nutritious.

Mhamai · 21/04/2007 15:56

Thanks for the link ChipyMinton will have a read.

foxinsocks · 21/04/2007 15:58

has a lot of sugar in it but then so does jam....you wouldn't give it to him every day for lunch anyway I'm sure

rantinghousewife · 21/04/2007 16:02

So with you there Nemo

Mhamai · 21/04/2007 16:14

God no certainly not every day.

OH yes it is.

Green and Black's organic spread is nicer.

colditz · 21/04/2007 16:26

no, Tesco Value Chocolate spread is the devil's spread. Ds1 called it 'scrambled chocolate on toast" (wtf?)

Blu · 21/04/2007 16:27

green and black do spread????

foxinsocks · 21/04/2007 16:29

problem with Green and Black's one (dd's favourite) is that it tastes just slightly less sweet than nutella which means she can cram loads more in without feeling sick!

motherinferior · 21/04/2007 16:30

Indeed so, Blu.

It can be mixed with ordinary peanut butter, too, so I hear.

zippitippitoes · 21/04/2007 16:31

wouldn't have thought commercial marmalade was any different...mostly sugar

stleger · 21/04/2007 17:08

(Ds had it most days for 2 years). They sometimes do special sets of glasses, we had all the Simpsons and a couple of Scooby Doo.
