self raising flour and butter and (i add sugar but i heard some people dont) and a pinch of salt. use your fingers and grind it until it is breadcrumbs. add milk slowly until it is a (slightly sticky) dough. break it into little chunks, roll it into balls, slap it between your hands to flatten it a bit and shove them in a low heat oven until they smell right.

enjoy!

oh, add the raisens or whatever after you have made it into breadcrumbs and then add the milk

as mtp says. i think i sometimes add an egg too, as can never remember if its supposed to go in or not.
add raisins in if you want to, but if so, add less sugar.
yummy.

or honey instead of sugar, but then less milk.

fransmom · 21/04/2007 22:52

how much of each? i not the type of baker that can chuck stuff in and it comes out right tia

8oz self raising
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
2 oz butter
1/4 pint milk
i egg
2oz sultanas

chuck it in a bowl, mix it, cut into 2 inch rounds and bake for about 15 mins. Job done!

Not sure what the difference is, but just know sultanas are better than raisins!!

ta x

have been promising dd for ages about making some scones with her.

i never used to bother much about baking but now dd is older, it seems more important for some reason!

now a clue fran, i graduated from the 'chuck it in until it feels right, cook it till it smells right' school!

mytwopenceworth · 21/04/2007 22:54

oh xpost. sorry.

fransmom · 21/04/2007 22:55

Good idea. dd started making scones first and now she's 11 she makes them on her own. Dead nice on a Sunday afternoon when you fancy a cream tea!

fransmom · 21/04/2007 23:02

i hadn't quite got that far yet, she's only two next week bless her but she loves mixing stuff i have to invent new ways of getting the bowl off her!

nite all

Think how good she'll be at it by the time she's 11 then!! My dd started at that age.
