i have to confess to not being a culinary queen so can i ask, is it ok to freeze fresh fruit and veg for my dd? there are a few things we buy just for her that dont last long and get wasted so was thinking would freeze some on the day i buy them. am thinking thing like melon, green beans, brocoli, baby corn. is there anything that i shouldn't /couldn't freeze?

TIA and sorry for my ignorance

It would be better to blanch the veg for about 5 min in boiling water, take out, spread on a clean tea towel until cooled down and then freeze. You could also prepare veg in the form you want to offer it to her and freeze it in individual portions. I would recommend you cook fruits before you freeze them, all fruit and veg goes soggy if you freeze them fresh, the cells expands and bursts.

thanks for that - didnt know that about cells etc. i am doing blw so to be honest, usually just steam the veg in sticks and fruit is just given in holdable chunks. had hoped someone would tell me i could just chop it and freeze it . i'm not lazy.... honestly!!

I would just buy frozen brocolli, i used to give that to dd if i wasnt having it, then give her fresh when we were.

I bought a pineapple sliced and froze today for snacks for dd, will report back but i thyink it will be ok, i would imagine it would be like when you buy frozen fruit salad, bit diff texture but reasonable so as long as you didnt always give frozen it would be ok.

good luck with blw, i had fun with dd

oh and frozen banana (skin off) is great for teething

Fruits do keep longer in the fridge if that helps.
