Any advice.
I do have an organic box and use local shops, but need a monthly cereal/juice/tins delivery as I have no car.
Which is better -Asda or Sainsburys?

fourjays, invest ina three wheel pushchair speciallyf ro carrying shopping.
my dc are no longer allowed to sit in the pushchair. on pain of, something really painful. it is purely for carrrying stuff. and my zimmerframe ofcourse.

We don't run a car and I've got an old lady shopping trolley now DS has outgrown his buggy. DH wouldnt be seen dead pushing it!It's a reasonably stylish black one, but I'd love a funky cow print one instead.

Wotzsaname · 19/04/2007 23:26

TwoIfBySea i see your point.

I am a small number of shoppers that won't go there and the sooner we wake up the better.

There is lots of support for our local village.

Local council banned pay and display, and there is free parking in the street and the local train station (2 hours free parking) right next door. On a bus route too.

The shop owners group together for fun events and like at Xmas and Fireworks night. Summer street party too.

Stitch, that is what I ued to do - had a double three wheeler that could take several days shopping but now kids are getting bigger - 3 and 5. I need to buy old lady style trolley.
V interested in funky cow print ones. Where do you reckon we can pick one of those up?

Sainsbury's better than Asda (and a member of the Sainsbury family has just saved it from going to a private equity firm). Asda is Walmart, which may be even worse than Tesco.
Waitrose - if in your area - because it is part of John Lewis Partnership rather than a vast plc and the staff are partners in the firm.
Co-op because it is owned by its members, stocks more Fairtrade stuff and isn't trying to take over the country (as Tesco is)
If you are in the NW - Booths is excellent.

IcingOnTheCake · 20/04/2007 12:13

Well Asda is cheaper and you get some good bargains but Sainsburys has a better quality. Well done for not using Tesco's!!!

I'm in Manchester but have nec=ver heard of Booth's. Do they deliver?
At the mo, I do local shops - butchers, fishmongers etc, organic box, Co-op and Aldi - I LOVE Aldi and a Tesco once a month for stuff I just can't physically carry.
Started doing Tesco online last year after I sold double buggy as it was a struggle with single buggy, shopping, buggy board, kids etc......
Did have a milkman but for some reason he only came three times a week and I could never gage how much milk I needed - I either was chucking it out as I had too much or I was running out. And bill was always wrong!

Booths is further north than Manchester (apart from Knutsford branch). Well worth a visit if you are in the Lakes/North Lancs.

nonsense fou4rjays
3 is a perfect excuse to still have a single three wheeler. thats what my urban detour is for. and my youngest is 4.2

FourJays · 20/04/2007 17:15

Well I guess that's me told!

oops, didnt mean to sounda s abrupt as that.

FrannyandZooey · 20/04/2007 23:25

I buy from Goodness Direct and Suma

local organic shops may deliver - phone around

also have shopping trolley and am not afraid to use it

northender · 20/04/2007 23:30

aldi and booths for supermarket stuff. Farmers market for chicken, butchers or Dad (sheep farmer) for meat, Fruit and veg from greengrocers, milk from milkman. Sounds a lot of hassle but I enjoy it (and am not a natural shopper) I'll happily take the kids with me and it's rarely (if ever) stressful

DOWN WITH TESCO........BASTARDS

Aefondkiss · 20/04/2007 23:56

local fruit and veg shop, and local butcher, co-op (who deliver, free, wed to sat but not refrigerated stuff)

we also shop at lidl and asda and then if we must tesco, but i don't have a club card
