Any good non plastic freezer solutions out there ? Especially for soups?

I need to freeze load of pre-cooked food for when relatives come to stay with us for two weeks over Christmas.

What can I use to freeze soups? I don’t like the idea of disposable plastic, we are trying to cut it out as much as possible. Also, I have a chest freezer, so no space issues. Any good quality containers out there?

I reuse ice cream containers and margarine tubs. If you don't eat ice cream or marge, ask people who do to save some for you.

You can get pyrex but they still have plastic lids.

For soups zip seal sandwich bags are another ooption

Plastic is ok as long as it is not single use, so Pyrex looks perfect. Didn’t realise their glass goes into freezer.

I would have used product tubs, but I started planning too late. I just don’t go through enough products to have enough tubs.

Tupperware?!

CreativeMumma · 19/11/2017 18:14

I use old plastic soup tubs I get when i’m being lazy

Monstamio · 19/11/2017 18:22

Tupperware. I freeze soups in silicone mini muffin moulds first then put the blocks in big tupperware containers. It means you don't have to defrost the whole batch at once. Handy if you need one portion. But then I have toddlers so soup is my go to quick lunch in winter.

I too reuse plastic shop bought soup containers. Alternatively use plastic freezer bags, freeze inside containers for shape then reuse.

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2017 18:36

I do a lot of baking- marge tubs are brilliant. But I am stealing the silicone muffin cases for soup thing. A positively inspired idea!

I use old jars and freeze. Passata is a great size as are beetroot or even Milner type jars.

Glasslock. They are Pyrex with plastic lids.

NotCornflakes · 19/11/2017 18:39

You get 'pour and store' freezer bags with a wide base designed for freezing soups. They're quite sturdy so I wash them out and reuse them.

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2017 18:40

If you freeze stuff in glass or Pyrex, can you put it straight in the microwave? I assume not.......

CupanTaeAnois · 19/11/2017 18:41

No idea about microwave but defrosts quickly enough in fridge or even in a bowl of warm water.

OldWitch00 · 19/11/2017 19:01

Yes, I do. Initially at 50%
I bought my two sets at Costco.
I rid myself of plastic containers about 9 years ago.

Yeah I put my pyrex straight in the microwave. It's fab because you can oven cook in them in to freezer to reheat in microwave after
