10m and stoped eating

My DD has been a really good eater up till a few weeks ago. She has stared spitting out things that are lumpy when it never used to bother her. She will only take a few mouthfulls from me on a spoon and then after that she won't take anything off her spoon. I have given her a spoon to hold and she takes a few more if I load it up for her to feed herself. I have been trying finger food and agian she will take a few pieces herself but after that just gets upset. She always takes her pudding which is usually fruit puree and I am thinking about not giving this to her if she doesn't eat any savory. I don't want to get into the habbit of giving her sweet things because she hasn't eaten anything else. should I try to eat with her perhaps? Is this just her learning to do it herself and she gets a bit frustrated? How long can she go on eating such tinny amounts? Does anyone havw any suggestions?

I haven't really got any advice from personal experience, but instinctively, I really wouldn't stop giving her the fruit puree - there is absolutely nothing wrong with sweet food and fruit is so healthy and good for her. It might also seem like a punishment and you want to make mealtimes seem pleasant, happy experiences, not negative ones. As I understand it, the key is to stay relaxed, keep offering her a good variety of food, eat with her when you can (or invite friends round who have children of similar age to eat at the same time). She will probably eat more some days than others and it will all even out in the end. Is she filling up on juice? If so, it might help to cut this down to increase her appetite. Otherwise, I am sure this is a phase and she will grow out of it. I bet there's some expert advice in the mumsnet archive is you do a search there.

Presumably the fruit puree is smooth - is it possible she has a sore throat or something? (I've never experienced this, it's just a thought)

It's probably more teeth - my ds ate nothing last week - I swear! Woke up one day and started wolfing it down again. Also, I've readthat this is the classic age when they wont eat off a spoon - want to do it themselves. Try finger foods + dips of purrees, egg yolks etc for protein. Let her handle the food, get messy etc. Also, feed her a bit earlier in case she's over tired - a problem with my ds. Change position / room = change of association, perhaps? Above all, don't worry, she wont starve herself! Good luck

I think you are all right. She has started to eat a bit better yesterday and today. I think it is just an insependant phase and she will hopfully learn to feed herfels in time. Thanks for the suggestions
