Ahhh, I have the perfect thing. I went to a girly night at a friend's house the other week and she made a beautiful spinach dip, which was basically inside a loaf of bread, served with tortillas around it to dip. Sounds gross, spinach, but it was delicious:

1 x 8oz pack of cream cheese
½ cup of mayonnaise
1 small onion, chopped
1 tin of spinach
½ cup of grated mature cheddar cheese
Small bunch of fresh dill
Salt and pepper
Uncut loaf

 Slice the top off the loaf and carefully scoop out the inside, leaving about an inch all round

 Mix all ingredients* together well and fill loaf

 Bake in a slow oven (180c/160c fan oven) for 1 ? 1½ hours

 Serve with corn chips

*For best results blitz onion and dill together into a paste and then mix with the other ingredients

baked camemberts with french bread. Balsamic vinegar also to dip bread in and olives with feta.

Bake the camembert in foil but slice the top off first and then lay it back down before you put it in the oven.

My faves are prunes in bacon, brie and grapes on sticks, mini plum tomatoes / basil leaf / mozzarella cubes on sticks (anything on sticks!), strawberries dipped in melted choc, home-made hummous and guacamole. And lots and lots of wine

wheelybug · 16/04/2007 15:57

blinis ?

I usually do cream cheese and smoked salmon (smoked trout cheaper and v. tasty) and this weekend I did some with melted mozarella on topped with a bit of pesto.

nailpolish · 16/04/2007 15:59

slice the top of the camembert then lay it down on the sliced off top, wrap in foil, then what?

not sure of the prunes in bacon

i love basil and toms and mozz thanks

pack of puff pastry, some parmesan and marmite.

two snacks.

One would be cheese straws - mix some of pastry with parmesan (fold/roll) roll out thin and cut into strips, twist, brush with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. bake.

Other - roll out thin, spread with marmite, kind of fold up butterfly type into middle and slice from roll (not explained well)- nice marmitey pastry biscuits. (after baking)

Yum!

nailpolish · 16/04/2007 16:01

ah toyouc an take a girl out of scotland

powder28 · 16/04/2007 16:07

bake it for about 20 mins at 200 dgrs c. Keep an eye on it, and make sure it is nice and cooked through in the middle. It starts to go firm when it begins to cool and you want it nice and runny for your guests.
You dont have to completely slice the top off, just enough to be able to check it in teh middle if you like, but wrap it in foil and put it on a pyrex dish to catch the cheese if it bubbles over.

nailpolish · 16/04/2007 16:07

am hoping if i provide food this time they wont get so pissed and i can avoid another ASBO
