DD will not eat fish covered in anything (crumbs, batter, sause) I tried today to keep the batter on the fish...........She refused to eat it.
I'm so so so glad she did this time as when i opened them up there was a big (ish) bone! I know they say they have tried to remove all bones but if she had eaten it .........
Should i complain?? The bone is on the side in the kitchen, didnt know if i should keep it or not.

No. I found quite a big bit of bone in ds's fish finger the other week but I wouldn't be so incensed as to complain about it.

colditz · 14/04/2007 19:01

No don't be silly, it's fish. Fish has bones.

Biglips · 14/04/2007 19:02

eeerrmmm no

WigWamBam · 14/04/2007 19:13

You're not really going to complain, are you? Fish contains bones; so many of them that it's impossible to remove them all.

Fish finger factories produce something like three million fish fingers every day. How are they meant to check that every single fish finger is free of bones? They do what they can - and they do warn you that some bones may remain.

You could always do away with fish fingers altogether and give her plain fish ... you can check the bone situation for yourself then.

bit of an over reaction.

Lullabyloo · 14/04/2007 19:17

yes why not...you might get a years worth of fish finger vouchers

Iota · 14/04/2007 19:17

I'd complain if I found a finger in my fishfinger

Hilllary · 14/04/2007 19:19

It usually says on the packaging " althouth care has been taken some bones may still remain" or something to that effect.

misdee · 14/04/2007 19:20

if it contained a chicken bone i would complain, but not a fish bone

Hilllary · 14/04/2007 19:21

At least you know its not processed

wheresthehamster · 14/04/2007 19:33

I found a bone in one that measured the entire length of the fish finger.

I wrote to Bird's Eye, a bit tongue in cheek, but trying to point out that fish fingers are aimed at children and that this was so big I was surprised that it could be overlooked.

I actually got quite a snotty letter back, not at all in the way I hoped I'd come across, basically saying they'd covered themselves by their wording on the packet.

I got a voucher for another pack.

zippitippitoes · 14/04/2007 19:40

no i think you just have to be careful

we used to eat real fish when iw as little and mum always used to say eat bread and butter if we got a bone stuck

Lullabyloo · 14/04/2007 19:58

You see now thats what i said to my mum WigWamBam. She was the one who said i should complain. I thought it was a bit much, wondered what you guys thought
TBH I mainly home cook all our meals but had to make a quick dinner for DD at mums (she hardly had anything in)

ha ha ha

finding a bone in a fish finger was the final straw that stopped me eating fish around the age of 10 (fully vegetarian by 13)

but yes, it's impossible to remove all bones isn't it. I think I was just looking for a good excuse to be honest!
