Just wondering.

More new boiled potatoes?

Isn't it what everyone else does?

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 17/10/2017 04:45

Haha. Well yes. And butter.

I mean, you can eat them with anything. But I'm struggling to come up with a 'proper' veggie meal incorporating new boiled potatoes.

Flavoured pasta sauce and cheese? Add sour cream, chives, guacamole. Yum.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 17/10/2017 04:52

I mean, that sounds delicious, but it's not really a meal is it?

I think I want new boiled potatoes to be a lovely buttery side dish to... something.

(I have now said "new boiled potatoes" too many times and I starting to doubt that they are real words).

Omelette
Veggie fingers or burger
Fallefel (sp?)

Katescurios · 17/10/2017 04:59

Bean loaf like this wholefully.com/two-bean-meatless-meatloaf-vegan-gluten-free/

Stuffed mushrooms

Vege meatballs in tomato sauce

Mushroom pie or a tarts like this one www.greatbritishchefs.com/recipes/root-vegetable-tarte-tatin-recipe

TangledUp07 · 17/10/2017 05:41

Usually with a vegetable quiche/pie/tart. The Aldi version of this is nice: www.higgidy.co.uk/product/spinach-feta-toasted-pine-nut-pie

With some salad and feta cheese on the side.

Cantseethewoods · 17/10/2017 05:43

Field mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese and herbs

RavingRoo · 17/10/2017 05:44

Mashed over veg or vegan cottage pie

fatfingeredfran · 17/10/2017 05:47

Veggie sausages, veggie sausage rolls, lasagne, mac n cheese, a big salad... loads of options!

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2017 05:57

In my dd's case-butter!

fatfingeredfran · 17/10/2017 06:00

Lovely with just butter and grated cheese too.

I hate this thread, you make me want them!

BertramTheWalrus · 17/10/2017 06:04

I'd have them with two soft boiled eggs and dip the potatoes into the runny egg yolk. I'd also have a salad or some green veg like green beans or spinach to make the plate look more interesting colour-wise.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 17/10/2017 10:01

Thanks for all the ideas.

I think quiche / pie / tart is probably the correct answer, but I don't eat pastry. I have made a cauliflower crust tart before - will do that again.

In the end I made some brown lentil burgers and bbq'd them. Had with the new boiled potatoes and some roast cauli / broc / sprouts

Veggie mince with gravy and green beans on the side. Yum.

KarateKitten · 17/10/2017 10:03

Not a vegetarian but I'd cut and roast them with cherry tomatoes and olives. Then sprinkle feta cheese all over them. Serve with avocado salad.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 17/10/2017 10:05

Veggie sausage sand ready-made veggie pie/tart?

Like karatekitten's idea!

blueberrypie0112 · 17/10/2017 10:15

This sight is good. Plenty of ideas: www.connoisseurusveg.com/

I have them with a delicious but ridiculously elaborate loaf type thing called mushroom timbale. With veg, salad and /or potatoes. Happy times! blog.fatfreevegan.com/2008/11/mushroom-lentil-and-wild-rice-timbales.html

Quiche here, with a lovely salad. I even like to go back to the 70s and have proper old fashioned salad (iceberg lettuce, cucumber, radishes, spring onions, tomatoes) complete with salad cream with it.

Ttbb · 17/10/2017 21:09

Brussels sprouts.

DoubleNegativePanda · 17/10/2017 21:30

Just plain boiled potatoes with butter? I love potatoes and I love butter but that sounds like a weird and boring side dish to me.

Sorry, i know that's not what you were looking for!

rosybell · 17/10/2017 21:31

I have an ommlette - usually filled with diced courgette/pepper/parsley & cheese.

Etymology23 · 17/10/2017 21:32

Cheese and lentil loaf would be the non-pastry side dish in this house. Or maybe a filo pie (coz filo doesn't really feel like pastry.)
