Which Breadmaker to buy.

My old Morphy Richards breadmaker has given up the ghost. I'm quite pleased actually, as it was rubbish and it gives me an excuse to buy a new one.
Please can I have your recommendations. I mainly bake a standard wholemeal loaf.

This thread is a bit old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for bread makers, we’ve recently updated our best bread maker page with loads of great options rated by Mumsnet users, whatever your kitchen size, budget or dietary requirements. We hope you find it useful. Smile

I think the standard mn answer is panasonic. We have had one. We've had a it for 9.5 years. It's really good.

Watching with interest. I went to the 'dark side' a couple of years ago when someone bought me a bread maker, and it's going a bit mad now (bread keeps trying to escape and the top isn't cooking properly).

I'm too lazy to go back to hand baking!

My Panasonic is 10 years old and good as new. I'd definitely recommend

CatsandOatcakes · 15/10/2017 18:23

Well, Panasonic is in the lead at the moment. Is it a particular model or are they all good?

My Panasonic is also about 10 years old and still going strong, love it especially the timer function.

Fuckalella · 15/10/2017 18:33

Definitely Panasonic. I have the SD-2511 model, it's a couple of years old and I love it!

With the old breadmaker the paddle kept sticking in the bread and the top crust bowing no matter how you adjusted the recipe. Very frustrating Angry

We have the most basic one that was available at the time - there used to be a choice of two - the one with the seed dispencer and the one without. Ours is the one without. I notice now there are some fancypants versions that make gluten free bread and other such specialities, but if ours died tomorrow i'd replace it with the one that costs £99.99 on the panasonic website.

Fekko · 17/10/2017 18:16

I've found that the paddle stays put if you let the bread sit in the machine a while before hauling it out. I still need to dig it out once in a while though.

SheffieldStealer · 18/10/2017 14:37

Panasonic here too. Whichever one cost £119.99 on the John Lewis website at Christmas last year.

There's a great breadmaker tip from King Arthur Flour about timing when the final rise is going to be, and then carefully tipping out the bread just before it starts to bake and removing the paddle, so you don't get that indentation. I would totally try this out if I could only (a) time it, and (b) be bothered to get up an hour earlier.

Panasonic. I’ve had one for about five years. Every loaf is perfect. I’ve got the more basic model without the raisin dispenser thingy.

CatsandOatcakes · 18/10/2017 17:02

I have gone ahead and bought a Panasonic. I'm going to have a play and make a loaf tomorrow. The book that came with it has many interesting recipes to try. Thanks for the help.

CountessofGrantham · 19/10/2017 14:28

Yep Panasonic!

ASDismynormality · 19/10/2017 14:33

I bought a Panasonic bread maker yesterday and have just finished making my third loaf!
Which way do you cut your bread as the slices are so large when cut the traditional way.

CatsandOatcakes · 19/10/2017 17:50

Made my first loaf today and it has turned out beautifully. Very happy. Did a brown loaf as a tester.

My Panasonic was amazing for 4 years then just didn't mix my pizza dough, said a sad farewell to her at the tip last week! Confused

repetitionrepetition · 23/10/2017 23:29

Panasonic ~110£ mine is 4 or 5 years old and it makes 90% of our bread (and pizza!) we love it!

Fekko · 24/10/2017 08:00

Mine definitely on the way out. Another chewy top crust! Bleugh!
