Chicken fajita pasta - please advise a terrible cook if this is ok?

Terrible cook combined with wanting to get my kids (2 & 4) to eat!

I saw chicken fajita pasta as a recipe and thought I could attempt it!

Is fajita spice just paprika? I also have cumin and chilli- will I add that too?

Also I've no salsa, so will a tin of chopped tomatoes do?

Fajitas spice is more than just paprika, but I'm sure chicken paprika pasta will be fine.

What do you do with the salsa? A semi drained tin of tomashoes will probably be ok. You got any onion you can add? The whole thing might be a bit tasteless, but should eddible.

I would add some cumin and a pinch of chilli to the paprika to make it more flavourful: also some oregano if you've got it? I don't quite understand the recipe really; if you want more help you could explain it a bit more. Is there a sauce around the pasta? Salsa is more of a side dish; in my view some chopped fresh tomatoes would be better than tinned tomatoes if you're aiming for a salsa rather than a sauce to coat the pasta.

You could try this....https://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Schwartz-Perfect-Shake-Fajita-Seasoning-Jar/316637011?ULPCAMPAIGNNID=52&gclid=CjwKCAjwos7NBRAWEiwAypNCewmMEZuxFOxpam5iSkcagZGqaf46zFJJ6EfwswRFBI8jqym8K90HBoCdxQQAvDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CLO-p-iamNYCFUuIUQodPxcN8A

I fried chicken, peppers, mushrooms & onions then added the spice & cream. It was lovely & both DCs inhaled it. No salsa needed unless you want nachos on the side.

YOu need a proper recipie. Your substitutions sound grim, sorry x

It may be a bit bland if you don't have fajita spice or salsa

If you are not a confident cook, I'd advise you to stick to the recipe exactly first time you make it. Then can you decide it's a keeper or otherwise & make subs on later versions. Otherwise you'll never know if it it's a dodgy recipe or just that you mucked it up with dodgy subs.

If you do want to make the subs, I'd suggest you look up a fajita spice mix ingredients list & use as many of those as you can, it'll gave much more than paprika. I would also be reluctant to use tinned toms - too much juice. Do you have any fresh toms you can finely chop?

If you look at the ingredients of a fajita mix packet that'll send you on the right track. I agree with cumin and maybe garlic.

I'd put the tomatoes and some chilli in with the chicken. You can't serve tinned tomoates instead of salsa.
Jamie Oliver is also good for recipes.

So, fry chicken and chopped onion, add garlic, spices and chilli, for a minute or two, then add tomatoes and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Your spices aren't that far away, I don't understand why they would be grim?
Fajita spice blends are usually cumin, paprika and cayenne/chilli powder.
Plus the usual salt/pepper and garlic that are likely to be store cuoboard staples.
If you blend all that into some tomatoes and thicken it up to get a nice pasta sauce I'm sure it would be lovely.

I make this all the time.

Fry chicken and veg in a decent amount of seasoning. Salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, chilli, anything of that sort that you have.

Add tinned tomatoes and sugar. Bubble a bit, taste. Add more chilli, cumin, paprika. And whatever else it needs to taste good.

Stir through cream cheese, sour cream, crime fraiche, whatever you were going to use. Mix into pasta, done.

It's easy. Your substitutions sound fine, just make sure you taste as you go along and add more seasoning if needed.
