I'm not sure it would be strong enough for you to taste it much after the chicken's cooked, tbh.

Not on it's own. Try making a marinade with cordial, some lemon juice, some olive oil, garlic, rosemary, some cayenne pepper and some salt and marinade it for a couple of hours and then repeatedly baste it whilst cooking.

If you use just cordial the sugar in it will burn before the chicken is cooked and it will taste nasty.
