Which one? And should I get one?

What do you use it for?

Only interested in kitchenaid mixers, not any other make - sorry Confused

They are style over substance. If you want one to look pretty on the side then get one, if you actually want to cook with it go for a kenwood or bosch

I bought an extra bowl for mine (glass) and a beater with a flexible edge so that I didn't have to scrape the bowl down so frequently. Both very well used, as is the mixer itself. First thing I made in it was marshmallows.

Mine is pistachio. It's gorgeous :)

Nothing wrong with a bit of style and it holds up just fine on the cooking side. Enjoy it OP - it will make you smile every time you give it a sneaky stroke Wink

Huffletuff · 08/09/2017 13:55

They aren't style over substance though. My Kitchenaid is far better than my Kenwood ever was.

Love my cream one and I use it every week. I got mine in the Christmas sales and the glass bowl came free with it. Definitely shop around for deals.

Good offer on Harts - various free gifts including the pasta maker and a bowl and a Joseph Joseph utensils thingy for £494...

The mixers aren't style over substance but I do think that the other products trade off the quality of the mixers, iyswim. So kitchenaid as a whole is a bit style over substance....

My mum has a toaster and a kettle and they're both crap but hugely over-priced. Similarly I know people who've had the food processor and say the same. I love my mixer though, and mine came on offer from a shop the name of which escapes me as I was given the mixer as a christmas present. But as freebies I got the pasta maker and the icecream bowl. Would love the glass mixing bowl but could never ever justify paying over £60 for a bowl...

I'm going to go slightly against the grain here, and say that my cakes are lighter when I make them with my hand mixer.

However, I love my Kitchenaid and choose to use it most often, as it's so convenient being able to multitask - letting it do its thing while I can get on with something else. I bake a lot and it's a real timesaver.

The standard flat blade it came with was useless; I was gutted at the (relatively) heavy, dense cakes it produced. It certainly couldn't cream butter and sugar - just squished them against the bowl. I bought a scraper blade and it's far better, although the cakes are still not quite as light as they are when mixed by hand. Maybe my machine is slightly faulty?

They never cpme out that good in which, the top 12 were bosch , kenwood and sage.

Auntiedahlia · 10/09/2017 16:04

Mine makes beautifully light sponges. Bought mine from Harts years ago. I use it at least three times a week.

flobella · 18/10/2017 12:01

I have the mixer, the food processor and the coffee machine. All are excellent - look pretty and do a very good job. I was surprised to see that someone didn't like their food processor - I think mine is absolutely brilliant. In the blink of an eye it shreds/chops/blends/juices anything you can think of. I got my (Artisan, empire red) mixer just after Christmas one year when a local department store had a 20% off offer.

FunkinEll · 19/10/2017 22:06

I love mine, I got it in Bentalls and it was a display model so they knocked a load of the price.

It has a glass bowl which love. I would like one of the cake beaters with a rubber bit on it and a bowl guard too.

Mine's storm grey but I think it was discontinued hence letting me buy the display.

The KA customer service is brilliant, a plastic but of mine broke quite soon after I bought it and they arranged a courier, fixed it and sent it back in less than a week.

FunkinEll · 19/10/2017 22:07

Oh and I always use the whisk for cake mixes as does a keen baker friend of mine. We both agree it makes lighter cakes than the beater attachment.

Ragusa · 19/10/2017 22:13

See I kind of want one but my mum has a kenwood one that is brilliant. What justifies the high price.from a technical POV? I wouldnt buy it just for the way it looked. Bit too retro airstream caravan for me 😂

3catsandcounting · 22/10/2017 15:43

I've seen a KA 2.1l food processor in a local shop, reduced from £150 to £99.

I'm after something that chops, slices, grates, and makes salsas, sauces, etc, but can I make a decent pizza or bread dough with it, or cake or batter mix (or do I need 2 separate appliances?)

Nothing I make will be on a large-scale.

chickenowner · 23/10/2017 09:09

I love my kitchen aid! We have a pale blue one from Lakeland.

I use it for..

bread making
cakes/muffins etc
mincing leftover roast meat to make cottage pie (we have a mincing attachment)
beating egg whites (saves so much time and effort!)

I make all our bread so it's used frequently. Smile
