anyone know how long to bake a sweet potato for?

I have some small sweet potatoes and I just want to bake them but i'm not sure how long for. I know with regular potatoes it's almost impossible to overcook them - I put some olive oil and salt on the skin, wrap them in foil and bake them for anywhere from 1-3 hours. But I'm not sure a sweet potato would survive as long. Anyone know?

any help

I have never cooked them myself but trying to help

ooh - a fellow matza eater! Happy Passover! I always find that sweet potatoes take less time than regular potatoes so check after 45 mins to begin with - they will be yummy!

Thanks trinity - I've been googling as well and have ended up with 5 different answers! Cook them anywhere from 350-450F for anywhere from 20-50 min! LOL that's not much help. I'll guess I'll just split the difference and hope for the best.

Hi Taylormama - I'm doing them for a seder tonight so I hope they come out well. No more lindt bunnies for you I'm afraid!

have a lovely seder tonight - hope your sweet pototoes are yum! I am missing "regular" chocolate - Pesach chocolate is eugh!

I don't mind the chocolate, the only thing I really miss (aside from bread of course) is decent coffee. The nescafe instant stuff just doesn't cut it. But other than that I really don't mind it. I don't like all the work preparing for it but once it starts I'm ok.

just for the record, I overcooked them.

I covered them in foil and at about 45 minutes they were perfect. But we weren't ready to eat so I left them in a very low oven for another 1/2 hour by which time they were extremely soggy. The inside still tasted lovely but not quite the effect i was hoping for. The upside is that because they didn't look so pretty I had several left over which helped to make a lovely carrot and sweet potato soup this afternoon.
