I can make white sauce, but not reliably. Any nice ready made white sauces out there?

The whisk is your sauce's friend.

I bought the Lloyd grossman one the other week because sainsburys had it reduced to five pence a packet. It's in a packet shaped like microwave rice. It was actually really tasty.

Tescos frozen cheese sauce was brilliant, I can make sauce but it was part of a buy 2 get 3rd free thing so I gave it a go. Made cauliflower and broccoli bake with it, smooth, creamy, yum.

Colman's packet white sauce ingredients:

Delia's all in one white sauce is really easy. Works every time as long as you do the key thing, which is use milk that is really cold from the fridge.

I do the Lloyd gross man one. So easy when you are in a hurry and reduces the washing up. I use one for lasagna and buy when it is half price

I think I'll try the Lloyd grossman if I can find it. Also will try delia!

I was hoping somewhere might sell cartons of fresh sauce, like posh custard in a tub.

It can't go wrong if you don't stop stirring. And I am quite a mediocre cook.

Just melt butter,
add flour, stir,
slowly add milk, as you stir stir stir.
Bring to boil, season.

BlackForestCake · 03/09/2017 22:28

I suspect there must be a technical reason it can’t be done. Otherwise the chilled cabinet would be full of it – think of the profit margin that could be made on something that is basically flour and milk.

SwedishEdith · 03/09/2017 22:31

Second Delia's. It's foolproof. No fannying about slowing adding milk.
