Hallumi (sp) cheese BBQs well.. You can grill it and it keeps its shape.

Pasta salad, potato salads, garlic bread

3easterbunniesandnomore · 02/04/2007 19:24

not a veggie, but quorn sausages are quite nice!
And I am sure you could marinate tofu and bbq it...cold also use that for the veggie kebabs...
Haloumi or Feta cheese (depending on what sort of veggie you are, I suppose...i.e. eat cows/goats milk products) also tastes lovely...Haloum,i sliced straight on teh bbq, and Feta cheese wrapped in foil with things like garlic cloves and tomatoes

DimpledThighs · 02/04/2007 19:26

paneer cheese (indian) marinated in yoghurt with tikka paste then thread onto kebabs with onion.

janeite · 02/04/2007 19:28

Another vote for haloumi - it's gorgeous. But if you want to do it on skewers with vege, it's best to partially cook the vege first, as the haloumi cooks v quickly.

Greenleeves · 02/04/2007 22:25

Thank you very much folks, some great ideas here, and I had forgotten about halloumi!

I always do the halloumi and veg kebabs, jacket spuds veggie burgers etc. and they go down well i also make big greeks salads and lots of couscous (always left with plenty of couscous though) - but surely most imortant thing is lashings of booze - or is that just me???

Greenleeves · 02/04/2007 22:34

I wish I could forget about quinoa ENTP - it inhabits my nighmares with its greasy gritty texture and sinister little taily bits

Well, I have cooked it, that's when the little weirdy tail bits separate and stick out

It's minging. It is not a foodstuff. End of.

How about dampers? And fruity kebabs?

3easterbunniesandnomore · 03/04/2007 09:22

oh,, and anyhting gets an extra yummy flavour if cooked on slices of lime....we do that, admittedly mainly with fish, however, it would work for most things...

Greenleeves · 03/04/2007 10:47

What's a damper?

OP posts:
Lazycow · 03/04/2007 10:52

Also don't forget to wrap bananas and chocoloate (good quality, fair trade iof course!!) in foil and cook on the grill for dessert - yummy !

Can you tell I like dessert!

Greenleeves · 03/04/2007 10:54

lazycow, that sounds evil

TooTicky · 04/04/2007 09:42

A damper is scone-like soft dough moulded or wrapped around a clean stick (not yew, obviously!)apparently hazel is best. Then cooked over fire/barbecue. I hasten to add that I have never actually made these, but it's one of those things I fully intend to do one day....
I have recipes for savoury and sweet, will type if you want...
