If you're overseas - can we do a food shop cost comparison?

I'm from the UK but in Australia, and I sometimes shop for family back in the UK online and can't believe the amazing prices there are in the shops.

Conversely, I'm also staggered by things like 3 fingers of watermelon costing 50p, plus the amount of packaging.

I think in Australia we tend to shop much more seasonally and package less, definitely there's no ready meal culture (well there is, but it's very boutique and expensive).

Can I ask what you pay for in your country for staples such as :

1kg potatoes
500g butter
1/4 watermelon
Punnet of raspberries
Bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc Wine
2 free range chicken breasts
Pint of milk
1 whole cauliflower
Butter
Tin of crushed tomatoes
500g mince
Loaf of bread
And
UK import of something like Fry's Chocolate Cream or Baxters Soup

Am in the Cayman Islands, all prices in CI$:

1kg potatoes - $6
500g butter - $6 (kerrygold)
1/4 watermelon - $2
Punnet of raspberries - $8
Bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc Wine -$25 for Oyster Bay
2 free range chicken breasts $8
Pint of milk - $5 a gallon
1 whole cauliflower - varies massively depending on shipping - $2.99 to $7.89!!
Butter
Tin of crushed tomatoes - $1.89
500g mince - $8 lean
Loaf of bread - $3.99 English frozen bread
And
UK import of something like Fry's Chocolate Cream or Baxters Soup - can't remember but any Christmas celebrations/quality street/heroes tubs cost -$18 per tin!!

Used to be extortionate in comparison, it's getting much better though and our imported Waitrose and Tesco goods are not hugely more expensive than in UK.

We just don't have the excellent selection as in the U.K.!

Oh and a tin of those tiny Heinz baked beans are about $4 each...

I'm in the US, in Texas. Prices are about to skyrocket because we're in a gas shortage due to Hurricane Harvey.

1/4 watermelon - $5.00. Usually about $4.00 for a whole one; we pay massively for having it cut for us.
Punnet of raspberries - $3.69
Bottle of NZ Sauvignon Blanc Wine - $12.00- 30.00
2 free range chicken breasts - $6.00
Pint of milk - $1.89
1 whole cauliflower - $2.50
Tin of crushed tomatoes $1.89
500g mince - $5.69
Loaf of bread - $3.69

Lapin, those Genevan prices are eye-watering. Confused

BoogleMcGroogle · 01/09/2017 20:15

Lapin wow! No wonder all the Swiss Seem to shop across the boarder if they can. The supermarkets near us (Evian) all have 'we take Swiss francs' signs up.

LapinR0se · 01/09/2017 21:55

Yes we do buy things over the border. Like when my DD was still in nappies we bought them in France. Just not affordable here, literally three times the price. I was very glad when she started using the potty!
And nursery fees - £2500 a month Shock
