batch cooking lasagna - forgot the parmesan

I currently have a vat of bolag sauce on the go, foil containers at the ready, ready to make up some lasagna for the freezer. However, I've just realised I forgot to buy the parmesan.

Would it work if I still made up the lasagne - meat, pasta, creme fraiche x 3, freeze then put the cheese on when defrosted ready to cook? Or would it be too bland?

Hmm well I don't use Parmesan in lasagna. Or creme fraiche.
I make bechamel sauce for the layers and put cheddar on top!

I've never put Parmesan in mine. I use cheddar mostly, could you do that?

I think it might be a little bland without some cheese in the sauce. You could put a little bit of cheddar in the sauce as flavour, then Parmesan on top when you cook it if you prefer the taste of that?

tinytoucan · 27/08/2017 19:33

By sauce I mean bechamel, not the meat sauce!

Yes just add the Parmesan when you cook it it'll be fine

Ecureuil me either until last week when I was passed on a recipe, and my two fussy kids loved it so that's the way I'm doing it from now on Grin

I do have some cheddar, but where as I would normally put that in the bechamel, I'm a bit unsure whether it would work with the creme fraiche. Oh well, I'll give it a go! Many thanks Flowers

Do you mean you use creme fraiche instead of white sauce? Isn't it a bit runny? And yes of course you could add cheese afterwards, why do you think you couldn't? (Another one who uses cheddar)

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 27/08/2017 20:25

poisoned yes, no white sauce - although having just made a load of that for the fish pies, I am now wondering why I didn't just double up and use that! Not runny I find, but as a novice cook, I haven't made one with the proper white sauce so I have nothing to compare it to Grin

I knew I could add the cheese to the top afterwards, I was just wondering if it would be too bland with no cheese throughout.

I don't think the original recipe actually has cheese in it so I am sure it will be fine!

Oblomov17 · 27/08/2017 20:29

I have never used Parmesan either.

creme fraiche always works well instead of bechamel- its a good cheat! I usually add cheddar to layers and then put parmesan and cheddar on top layer
