Chicken curry my kids will eat?!

I want to make a chicken curry that's delicious but that my kids will eat. They turned up their noses at my last effort but apparently love the one they've had at nursery Hmm

Anyone got a winner?

Rick stein has a recipe for classic chicken tikka. It's lovely. He recommends quite a bit of chilli powder. If you really tone that down it's still really tasty just not hot

Not quite a curry but my toddler (and husband) love this: www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/chicken-recipes/thai-chicken-laksa/

I find sweet potato and coconut milk are the answer to a kid friendly curry.

Banania · 21/08/2017 10:18

Sadly i doubt the curry was anything as healthy as the Annabel Karmel one since that's the one they turned their noses up at here Grin

Tbh i suspect nursery one may not be entirely made from scratch.

Rick Stein one looks yummy but have a feeling they'll whine that it's not the same. Might try it anyway.

Ask the nursery - this is what I did as I was astonished at some of the things my dc would eat there but turn their noses up at home

This pleased all my family. Really yummy. I know it's from NM's but I googled toddler recipes months ago and found this and we all love it.

Don't put as much stock in though and maybe half the quantity of paste. (Bit of a cheat recipe but trust me it is yummy)

Dina1234 · 21/08/2017 10:24

Children are usually happy eating butter chicken...not sure anyone else would though.

wavesandwellies · 21/08/2017 10:44

my dd 6 loves chicken curry and always has. I make a Thai green curry and a shimmy world one. I've also bought a jar of asda kids curry sauce (think it was korma) and she was happy to eat that (only bought it once)

Thai green curry

jar of Thai green curry paste from asda or tesco, one green and one yellow pepper, tin of coconut milk, diced chicken breast.

fry chicken breast, add peppers, add 3-4 tablespoons of curry paste. stir. add coconut milk. simmer for 10mins.

not sure if the link will work as I don't know how to do them properly. That's the one I make but don't add spice to the broccoli and green beans

Urglewurgle · 21/08/2017 10:53

I make the cook yourself thin Katsu Chicken curry all the time and it's lovely. Easy to put in more or less chilli too.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 21/08/2017 10:56

Mayflower curry powder from
home and bargain.

mild curry I find this is a hit in my house it s v mild and nice

PrawnTempura · 21/08/2017 11:33

I buy this katsu curry sauce, I can get mild, medium or hot versions from supermarket where I shop. I've seen it available at Sainsbury's and Tesco's.

PrawnTempura · 21/08/2017 11:35

Meant to say, my very sensitive (to chilli / hot foods) kid will eat the mild and medium versions of that S&B sauce.

agnes2016 · 21/08/2017 11:42

I've been making one from a recipe on here for years. It might still be in the recipe section?
Chicken satay curry

Red thai curry paste
Coconut milk
Chicken chopped
1 tins chopped tomatoes
Onions
Lime
Peanut butter
Garlic (I use a spoonful of lazy garlic)

Fry onions and garlic
Add chicken
Fry for about 5 minutes
Pour over coconut milk and a couple of tablespoons of curry paste
Stir in for about 5 minutes
Add toms
Stir again until well mixed
Add tablespoon of peanut butter and stir until mixed
Bring to boil and then simmer for about 15 mins and squeeze in half a lime.

I sometimes add spinach.

My dc all love it.

agnes2016 · 21/08/2017 11:44

Found it - but different to original recipe but I can make it with my eyes closed now 😂

I highly recommend "tweaking" the Annabel Karmel chicken and apricot curry. It's mild and sweet. Super yummy.

Banania · 21/08/2017 12:39

You're all so kind and these are great recipes all.

In the end I went for this one www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1993658/homestyle-chicken-curry?amp= based on what ingredients I had to hand.

We've just finished eating it for lunch. Child 1 had a decent bowl of it, child 2 ate about a third. Neither rejected it outright so am calling it a qualified sucess. Was a bit too spicy for them maybe which I attempted to fix by giving them spoons of yoghurt on top.

For me, it was lovely!

LineysRun · 21/08/2017 12:43

It's probably chicken pieces with a jar of Asda Korma sauce added, tbh. Which is surprisingly tasty - OH makes it.

Stefalop · 21/08/2017 13:52

That's great. I've still to get DSS who's 8 to eat a curry but DD who's 10 months loves this and actually yums whilst she eats. I hope we'll eventually all eat the same.

Grooves · 21/08/2017 15:57

Asda do curry packets (not Asda own brand) I use the tandoori one. I also add turmeric, mild curry powder and chilli powder. I use tinned toms and coconut milk to make it go further. It's a huge hit in my house.

I don't use measurements I just whack it all in. (:
