Organic sugar-free ketchup, which ones do you recommend?

Has anyone tried any of the ones on offer and what are they like? Do they taste like the real thing? I tried some once and it was more like tomato puree. Now I've found the Biona one sweetened with agave syrup, is it good? Will my DS accept it as a suitable alternative to the normal stuff?

Thanks!

euwwww sugar free ketchup .. why bother?

climbingrosie · 30/03/2007 09:30

lol twiglett

They are still sweetened, though with alternatives to refined white sugar and I guess with less in them! Though I'm not looking for anything with artificial sweeteneres! My ds eats ridicul;our quantities of the stuff.......

Agree sugar free would be ewww, like tomato puree

Good q, CR. What happened to Heinz Organic? I'm sure it used to exist, didn't it? Not sure if sugar-free, though.

FrannyandZooey · 30/03/2007 09:42

We have the Meridian one atm - not organic, but I bought it because it has a short ingredient list. It's sweetened with apple juice. I think ketchup is the devil's work, but dp and ds think this one is ok

colditz · 30/03/2007 09:44

Mix some organic tomato puree with some organic honey.

Fauve · 30/03/2007 11:54

I have to do daft mixing things then shove it all in a Heinz squeezy bottle to fool dd it is Heinz

climbingrosie · 30/03/2007 13:43

at the mixing suggestions! I too have switched packaging on things to fool DS!

FandZ I'll look out for the meridian one, doesn't matter too much if it's not organic, more the short ingredient list.

Fauve I remember eeing heinz organic, haven't seen it for a while though, and it still has all the sugar...but I try not to go to supermarkets that often and that is probably where they stock it. Thanks though!

Now for the baked beans...

Climbingrosie make your own baked beans!

Search for my name and baked beans to find a good recipe

or take the lazy way and buy organic ones and mix with ordinary tinned beans such as kidney beans or chickpeas. Less salty and more nutrition in the different kinds of beans.

FrannyandZooey · 30/03/2007 18:28

plus it strikes me you would like this website

Milliways · 30/03/2007 18:32

Heinz Organic ketchup is on special at £1 in Asda (for upside down squeezy bottle) at the moment. Bought some today to try.

Greenleeves · 30/03/2007 18:34

FrannyandZooey · 30/03/2007 19:03

colditz · 30/03/2007 21:01

don't be silly.

You have to roast the oats in an aga.

nogoes · 30/03/2007 21:03

Peter Rabbit Organic Ketchup. Personally I would rather eat my own intestines than ketchup I can't stand the stuff but ds and dh love it! Dh would only eat heinz before but he reckons PR is actually better. You can buy it in Waitrose and health food shops.

colditz · 30/03/2007 21:05

I bet your DH loves to tell his friends he prefers Peter Rabbit ketchup to Heinz

climbingrosie · 31/03/2007 08:34

Thanks FandZ, good website! I've come across it before and have actually been thinking about using them. Maybe the time has come...
