Need to replace my £2 Ikea chopping board as it's a bit worn and torn as it were and get something a bit more 'proper'.

What's the best in terms of replacement - plastic, wood or glass chopping boards?

We use a bamboo one, it seems pretty indestructable. We have a marble one too but never use it as it blunts the knives.

I have a glass one and a wooden one. Glass one for meat and most veg. Wooden one for things like bread.

I have a wooden one and a bamboo one. The plastic ones look grotty very quickly and it's not very environmentally friendly to throw them away and replace them frequently.

I have a few plastic ones, which go in the dishwasher, and a couple of smaller wooden ones, which don't. The plastic ones are used far more!

Wooden ones are supposed to be more hygienic as they kill bacteria (or something). We use mainly wooden, but I do have a plastic one if I'm in a hurry and want to shove it in the dishwasher. Wooden ones need hand washing obviously.

I have all colour coded plastic ones. Drives me mad when OH uses the wrong colour

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 17:05

Glass plays havoc with your knives. I prefer plastic Ones.

Wood - naturally antiseptic apparently. Plastic ones get tatty very quickly and become difficult to clean properly, and they aren't good for knives.

Obviouspretzel · 11/08/2017 21:53

All wood. Plastic move around and are tatty. Glass feel awful to use and destroy knives. Ditto marble.

Wood is heavy and keeps still, feels nice under your knife and lasts a long time.

Wood and bamboo. IKEA do great versions of both. I got one big one with a lip that sits flush against the counter so it doesn't move about.

Colour coded Joseph Joseph plastic ones.

tellybear · 11/08/2017 22:43

Best one I have used for ages is a bamboo one from IKEA.

YellowLawn · 11/08/2017 22:45

plain white plastic ones mainly.
go in the dishwasher after use.

muffinlondon · 12/08/2017 10:58

Got the Joseph Joseph ones and a few wooden ones.

Everything goes in the dishwasher

WeirdnessOfDoom · 12/08/2017 22:51

Wooden one from tesco and bamboo from lidl.

GinUser · 13/08/2017 19:22

Wood from Habitat & Ikea

Brownsauceandsausages · 13/08/2017 19:25

Plastic ones from Lakeland that go in dishwasher at high temps. Proper wooden one for bread and cheese when we have guests, cleaned with boiling water from kettle.

GreenRut · 13/08/2017 19:32

I have the Joseph Joseph ones too- had wooden before but love these. There's always one left if you need to chop something else and they go straight into the dishwasher. Only gripe would be they could do with being a little bit bigger.

LottieandSeth · 13/08/2017 19:34

A wooden one that belonged to my grandma

BarbaraOcumbungles · 13/08/2017 19:36

Loads of 60p plastic ones from ikea and I use them all for everything.

n0ne · 13/08/2017 20:01

Several wood ones and one plastic one. I avoid the plastic one and certainly don't use it for meat. Wood is more hygienic.

Can't abide glass - the sound and feeling of knives hitting it - gah!
