My first post, greetings to you all!

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on a small thing - my 18 month-old son throws up after eating cheese. He has been like this with cheese ever since he first tried it, but he has no problems with any other dairy food, or any other food for that matter.
Obviously not a major concern, but I'm curious.

Bronwyn

I cannot eat cheese either and I am 35! It makes me physically sick but I also can eat other dairy products. I love pizza but only had it for the first time about 5 years ago when I realised I could order one "without cheese" - lovely!

I've seen some lovely seafood pizzas without cheese, do you have any favourite toppings? At the moment he cheerfully chews on pizza crusts, so I think I might need to get creative in the kitchen!

Bronwyn, DD is milk intolerant so can't eat cheesse either but there are a few vegan cheeses around which might be worth a try, you can buy them in health food shops and some supermarkets. Tofutti soft cheese is a good cheese spread substitute and I have recently heard about Vegie Kaas which is supposed to taste and melt like proper cheese. I have tried Cheezly and Scheese but didn't like either, they smell a bit sicky and don't melt. How is DS with cheese flavoured things? Lots of them do contain powdered cheese eg wotsits, does this have the same effect?

He downed some wotsits enthusiastically at a party with no ill effect, but has avoided them since so I'm not sure if they made him feel a bit queasy.
Such a small thing compared to a milk intolerance, thanks for the suggestions on vegan cheese - must admit that I had never even thought to look for such a thing!

I suppose it all depends what it is in the cheese that makes him ill. If it is the flavour then there's not a lot you can do but maybe he will grow out of it, if it is one of the ingredients then perhaps he has a food sensitivity. Have you tried cheese spread? because it has a different texture and is not so strongly flavoured so it might be ok (probably different ingredients too - I don't know how they make it).

Have you tried goat's cheese? When I was little cheese made me feel nauseous but I grew out of it by about seven. You could also have a look at the Vegan Society's website for cheese-free ideas - www.vegansociety.com
