I normally have a sandwich, usually cheese and usually 3 peices of bread with butter and sometimes crisps too.

Anyway, have been feeling really down about my fat day clothes gradually becoming my every day clothes and so am really trying to eat healthier and lose a bit of weight.

So I have just had a tuna salad made up of a whloe tin of tuna, mixed salad with added toms and cucumber, oh and a drizzle of low fat salad dressing, plus half a glass or orange juice instead of my normal cuppa.

I really enjoyed it and it filled me up which has made me think maybe it wasn't as healthy as I though LOL

So, was it ?

yEP YOU CAN FEEL SMUG FOR HAVING A HEALTHIER LUNCH - i AM SITTING HERE EATING ROAST POTS AND ROAST BEEF WISHING IT WERE A BIG MAC OR QUARTER POUNDER!!

dingolimpet · 23/03/2007 13:10

sounds ok, no bread so better for weight loss

actually if it was plain tuna, sounds very healthy, better for you anyway.

NuttyMuffins · 23/03/2007 13:12

LOL twinkie, ok will out my smug face on

I am definatly going to have to force myself to stick to this as I love crap food, but hopefully i'll get used to it.

Any ideas for nice salads greatfully recieved. Actually healthy meals in general needed, have cheated and got a weight watchers meal for tonight.

I think it sounds very healthy. I just had a cheese and coleslaw sandwich which I think is probably neither healthy nor unhealthy.

NuttyMuffins · 23/03/2007 13:13

Yep it was plain tuna, well apart from the bit of dressing I put on.

I am a bit of a breadaholic so am trying to have as little as poss.

I might join the 10/10 fruit and veg thread, if I can find it.

My favourite salad ever is half a lump of goats cheese, grilled, on top of a mixed salad with that blue dragon sweet chilli sauce drizzles over the top. It's lovely I'm addicted to it.

NuttyMuffins · 23/03/2007 13:15

Sounds yummy, have never had goats cheese.

Definitely the healthier ption. You sound the same as me - I always have cheese sandwiches and crisps for lunch. Only time I ever lost weight was when I replaced sarnies with salad - for my wedding 4 years ago!!!
Trick is to change salad so you don't et bored. So have with tuna, cottage cheese, hummus, goast cheese, sardines, mackerel, chciken from last night's dinner etc etc.
Also put in interesting things not just lettuce, cucumber and tomato - so sweetcorn, beetroot, red onion for example

NuttyMuffins · 23/03/2007 13:19

Oooh cottage cheese, had forgotten about that and I love it.

What topic are the 10/10 fruit and veg threads under ? I can't seem to find them.

Sounds fine, but if you're anything like me, you may get fed up of large amounts of tuna after a while. I love the stuff, but can't eat much of it.

Rice (though a dreaded carb!) is very healthy so I often have plain rice with a bit of tuna, or prawns or chicken, with peas/sweetcorn/peppers/cucumber/whatever I've got. Extremely simple to make and the veg makes it mist enough to have without any sauce. If we have rice for dinner I make extra and put it in the fridge for lunch next day.

Mercy · 23/03/2007 13:19

Sounds pretty healthy to me.

I find lunchtime a struggle too - sick to death of sandwiches!

I have found the following to be filling but healthy

Veg soup
Sardines on toast
Guacamole with crackers
Poached egg
Houmous, frenc bread & veg sticks

NuttyMuffins · 23/03/2007 13:20

Oh they all sound lovely, will print the thread off and stick it on my fridge.

Found the 10/10 threads, they are under health incase anyone else wants to know.

OMG, sweet chilli sauce - I love it! Actually that's nice on the rice thing I mentioned before. For a very rare treat I make king prawn noodle soup - raw prawns, coconut & lemongrass Schwartz stir fry powder stuff (so yum), sweet chilli, soy sauce, peas and a bunch of rice noodles (or angel hair spaghetti), oh, and water of course. I'm pretty sure this is very healthy! As far as I know there's no fat and the noodles and chunky prawns make it filling. You could use chicken instead I guess.

SongbirdIsEasteryEnough · 23/03/2007 13:25

BTW on my first post I mean 'moist', not 'mist', in case you missed (!) that

dingolimpet · 23/03/2007 13:28

Noodles ahve a zillion calories in though don't they?
I used to have a pack of instant noodles every evening, and looked at calories one day and nearly fainted.

Mercy · 23/03/2007 13:30

I think the powder/sauce sachet that comes with instant noodles is the main culprit tbh.

SongbirdIsEasteryEnough · 23/03/2007 13:32

Ahh, if you just get packets of unflavoured rice noodles (Sharwoods I think), they're not so evil, similarly the angel hair pasta (skinny spaghetti). I know what you mean about the instant noodles - I used to be a bit addicted to those and thought they were very saintly, but they seem to be full of crap! Would it be because they're egg noodles do you think?

SongbirdIsEasteryEnough · 23/03/2007 13:32

Ah, the powder.

NuttyMuffins · 24/03/2007 14:31

Had cottage cheese salad today, it was nice but i didn't enjoy it as much as the tuna one.

Kind of spoilt it though by having a mini battenberg cake after
