Why would you limit the number of ice cubes your child has?

Why on earth would you - if they like ice what harm can it do? Does she only let him have half an ice lolly then? I think the woman's a control freak.

Hulababy · 12/07/2004 13:22

Absolutely no idea. I am assuming the ice cubes are just water ones? Love to know what it might be though!

SoupDragon · 12/07/2004 13:36

Can't imagine why, especially as the child was 7. The only thing I can think of is that a very young child might get too cold ??

I limit the number DSs have but only because it's difficult to drink a drink that's 90% ice cubes! We also have one of the american fridge/freezers with ice dispenser.

Last time we were out in a pub garden L loved crunching on the ice and I saw nothing wrong with it. D said 'stop now' after her 6th and I asked why he thought I should stop, out of interest, and he said it'll give her brain freeze!

Fio2 · 12/07/2004 13:44

maybe she thought they were vodka ones

NomDePlume · 12/07/2004 13:53

Not generally, but my DS2 used to get headaches from too much icy cold stuff, so perhaps her child is just particularly sensitive to it ?

DD (23 months) adores ice cubes, I blame myself. I was addicted to frozen stuff (lollies etc) when I was pregnant with her.

Thomcat · 12/07/2004 14:06

They were fio!!!!

Yeah - see, for headaches read brain freeze.

JulieF · 12/07/2004 17:31

Maybe he makes a mess or something with them or plays with them in his drink if he has too many. Could be all sorts of reasons I expect.

pepsi · 12/07/2004 17:35

Perhaps he is an ice cube addict and two isnt enough, perhaps he gets 2 ,thens aks for another 2 and before she knows it shes out of ice and has to wait to freeze some more .....whilst child is screaming I WANT ICE. Just a thought. Feel like Im depriving my kids now....I never give them ice.

Blu · 12/07/2004 17:37

Perhaps she was worried about using up your supply, and worrying that you would have to fall back on a luke warm G&T once they had left!

clary · 12/07/2004 17:45

Hate to sound like a preachy old bag (tricky not to alas) but ice cubes are a choking hazard, bit like boiled sweets, onyl they melt quicker. Doesn't explain why you would allow some tho.

SofiaAmes · 13/07/2004 01:27

The italians think ice cold drinks are bad for you after you have been running around. I have even seen doctors in Italy prevent their children from drinking a drink with ice in it after running around on the beach on a 90 degree day.

I suspect the french probably have some theory on it too.
