At what age did you start offering water in the night?

At what age did you start offering your child a drink of water if they wake in the night? My twins are 13 months and still wake occasionally and I wonder if it is because they are thirsty? I don't want to encourage them to wake up for a drink but hate to think that they are thirsty! They are cutting down on their night-time milk feed and only take 3-4oz.

I think I did at around 12/13 months, I got fed up with DD waking for a bfeed at nights, so substituted it with a glass of water and hey presto, no more waking up. She does eat a lot in the day so didn't really need that night feed, though, had she been a fussy eater I might have waited a couple of months. I think in my DD's case it was more a comfort thing than actual need for food and once she saw she was only getting water decided there was no point in waking up.

My kids always have a sippy cup of water in their beds or cots. I think I started doing this from six months or something.

I always have to have a bottle of water on my bedside table, why should kids be any different?
