am going away for a week

always end up with fresh pasta and sauces from Waitrose

wanted something else for me and kids that I could just get a few ingredients for and not have to faff around - cooking facilities limited to some warm rings

any help?

(and if moondog is hanging around yes I will use prepacked veg this week so yah boo sucks)

No oven?

filtered · 20/03/2007 09:26

pot noodle?

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 09:35

no oven

well there might be one but it might not heat up too much

one year we only had a microwave

lol!

How about veg stir fry? You can buy pre-cooked noodles and a stir fry pack (some have a sachet of sauce with them I think)

kitbit · 20/03/2007 09:36

risotto? Bag of arborio rice, few handfuls of prepacked veg, some hot stock and some grated parmesan.

or baked bean curry and rice: take garam masala and turmeric with you, just need to soften onion, add spices, throw in baked beans and a tin of plum toms. Squeeze of lemon juice and chuck a spoon of yogurt in to make it creamy.

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 09:37

stirfry - tick

(well actually it might not be so much a 'fry' as a 'warm through on some warm rings )

delighted to get my pre-packed veg in there (pokes tongue out)

chicken quesedillas - need chicken, tortillas, cheese, spring onions (optional), salsa

Mercy · 20/03/2007 09:37

sorry, the lol was at the pot noodle, not at the lack of oven.

What sort of accommodation is it then?

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 09:37

god kitbit my kids might actually eat that

ZZMum · 20/03/2007 09:39

corn beef hash .. boil spuds and mash mix in tin of corn beef and serve with baked beans..

make fajitas... just fry filling in pan and serve with grated cheese on side

brocolli soup onion, brocolli garlic and other veg serve with bread

chilli served with tortilla chips rather than rice

good sausages and onions served in ciabatta with mayo and salad

Mercy · 20/03/2007 09:39

Omelettes?

Well, eggs in any form really.

indignatio · 20/03/2007 09:39

Tortillas
frittata
fry up

kitbit · 20/03/2007 09:42

something we call "splat" : basically bubble and squeak. Boil spuds to soft and steam some broccoli. Chuck the whole lot in a frying pan and mash it up a bit. Let it brown, turning frequently bit by bit so it's still jumbled but there are tasty browned bits all through and then maybe throw in some kidney beans. Serve with baked beans.

[thinks back to student living]

we had wonderful stuff called Beanfeast - meat-free bolognese you add hot water to and cook. Probably best not to read the back of the packet too hard though .

Cappuccino · 20/03/2007 09:44

oooh MrsB I remember beanfeast

it came in different 'flavours'

fried toased sandwiches: make cheese butties as you would to go in a breville with butter on the outside, but cook them in a very lightly greased frying pan instead. can use any fillings you would for brevilles but obviously runny fillings will ooze out. Doesn't matter if you're using cutlery though!

MrsBadger · 20/03/2007 09:45

oh yes

and 'golden vegetable rice' etc
