My DD is 2 and a bit and I have been giving her full fat organic cows milk as I thought that she should be having a pint a day.

However, I read in a parenting book over the weekend that said that you should give kids over the age of 2 skimmed or semi-skimmed milk to cut down on cholesterol. Does anybody know whether this is right?

I've always thought that kids need a high calorie diet and the skimmed/semi-skimmed milk option is suggested for those children who are overweight. I actually read somewhere of cases where overly health conscious parents were not providing their kids with enough calories and doctors had told them to give crisps and chocolate to fatten them up.

I don't know much about the cholesterol aspect though, so hopefully someome more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Is your dd of average weight? My own dss are puny so I give them full fat of everything.

i always thought it was 5?

have googled and all the 'medical' sounding sites, netdoctor etc, say 5. tesco diets says 2... so well, i might be inclined to go with 5!

Yes I thought it was 5 too. My dd has for the first time since birth finally reached the 50th centile (going as low as 9th at one point) and I therefore did not want to take her off any full fat products unless I was completely getting it wrong. so thanks for your comments Saadia and Dabbles and for your research!
