How much SALT should a Adult have and also to a child please?

thats what my Dp said about the Adult...as we work out taht we are only eating about 2g per day

there's normally quite a bit of salt in foods like bread which you don't notice (unless you make your own)

For children it is 2g I think, but this site might have more info.

Sodium is present naturally in some foods, including dairy products,and that is what the body needs, not 'salt' per se. You only need about 500mg of dietary sodium a day for your body's daily needs. One teaspoon of salt contains about 2000mg of sodium.

You need more if it's hot and you're loosing it through sweat though.

As well as bread which someone mentioned, there is also salt in most packaged cereals, and in things like soy sauce and cheese.

I've been on MN too long, I understood SALT to mean speech and language therapy!
