My DH has been told he has raised cholesterol and needs to change his diet to lower it...just wondering if anyone could inspire me with some tasty but low fat/salt dishes that we could cook.

A lot of advice on cholesterol is quite outdated, and from information that was bad science in the first place.
I would have a look at the website Diet Doctor and learn a bit more about lchf, they also have lots of recipes.

I am coming from this from a slightly different angle but I had mine tested recently and it was 4 which the doctor said was very low (I'm 37) and we had a chat about what I ate regularly etc. I don't eat any red meat, I eat a lot of fish, I don't really like chips so don't eat them (I like rice and pasta), I eat a lot of green veg and apples and I don't ever drink anything other than tea with soya milk or water. I don't smoke or drink (teetotal). I walk for 1.5 hours briskly twice a week and I'm not overweight. All of these things are supposed to help apparently. My one vice is chocolate - I eat a lot of milkybar Blush

Is diet the only treatment they are offering?

I have very raised Cholesterol due to a genetic issue with my Liver receptors. Having had two Heart Attacks as a result I am aggresively treated.

My Consultant has always told me it is not possible to achieve more than a 10% drop in Cholesterol levels as a result of dietery changes.

If your DH's levels are very high it would be worth getting further advice both as to the reason why they are high and whether he needs additional treatment.

The British Heart Foundation are a really good source of information on this issue

Diet and exercise are what has been recommended at the moment, he is to go back in three months to have it checked again and see if he has managed to reduce it.

My results were elevated but I was under a lot of stress and had been for some months. I started adding handfuls of beans or lentils to every meal. Use ground lentils to thicken all meat sauces. We now prefer meals with added beans and lentils - especially green lentils.

Started exercising (pilates) but I'm very limited because of physical problems. Now added swimming in but often have to stop as physically unwell. Have lost weight and still needing to lose weight!

Blood results now hover around the high of normal.
