making dd's birthday cake tomorrow. will be a chocolate cake in shape of a treasure chest. i planned to decorate with dairy milk chocolate and white chocolate but just realise they 'may contain nuts' and one of the guests has a nut allergy. any ideas?

errr .. I know .. I got it

I have taken a plate of food to parties myself as you cannot expect other people to appreciate the risks as I think Twiglets comment shows. The other day I went to someones for lunch and she served the other children chicken Satay sticks which made me really nervous. She knew ds had a nut allergy but obviously did not appreciate that had he reached across for one of them (as a 3 year old might) he could actually die.

I wasn't being mean Berrie .. but honestly if I'm catering for 25 kids or so and one of them has a severe allergy then I would do my best to incorporate it but would expect a hell of a lot of guidance from the parents .. possibly even to them providing a list / suitable ingredients .. or at least offering to

Which I know that Twiglett was not actually proposing...

Berrie · 06/03/2007 16:24

Yes I agree with you Twiglett, sorry got the wrong end of the stick the first time I read your comment

glad i dont have to deal with this myself every day.

will see what kiddies mum says ref ingredients. if cocoa powder is ok then i'll make choc cake and create a small one especially for said child without the dairy milk on.

if cocoa powder not ok then she can have something else in her party bag.

twiglett - you have a v good point and i have already made sure all of the party food itself is nut free.

JUST FOUND YOUR THREAD. I HAVE DD WITH NUT ALLERGY. NOT THAT I BUY CADBURY PRODUCTS VERY OFTEN BUT I DO THEIR COCOA. IT IS SAFE AND STATES NUT ABSENT ON THEIR WEBSITE. I ALSO HAVE BROUGHT SAINSBURY BUTTONS IN THE PAST AS THEY USED TO BE IN THEIR NUT FREE BOOKLET. CANT FIND THEM IN THERE AT THE MOMENT BUT THE PACKAGING IS STILL NOT SHOWING A NUT WARNING SO I THINK IF YOU PHONE THE SAINSBURY CARELINE 0800 636262 YOU SHOULD FIND THEY WILL BE OK. THEY STOCK MILK AND WHITE.

Someone may hava already written this - not checked but M&S sell chocolate that they advertise is made in a nut free factory.
