I've bought the Salter Mandolin, on offer from Sainsbury's, but haven't taken it out of the box as I'm not convinced I would use it. Thanks.

No - it's one of those things that I have but is gathering dust at the back of the cupboard....

AmericanPastoral · 19/03/2017 00:10

Oh, I was SO tempted to get it out of the box today. I want to be convinced that it is the right thing to do even though it will probably share your one's fate...

Not used one since I took top off my finger when using it and won't be using one ever again.

I do on occasion if I'm batch cooking but other that that, it rarely sees the light if day.

Yes, they're really amazing! You can mini-baton a whole carrot in 30 secs. Mine has a guard so no injuries. Goes in dishwasher too.

I mainly use mine for potato gratin and pickled cucumber.

Petrified to use mine :(

Yes - leeks, potatoes (for gratin, boulangère, top of hot pot etc) hidden vegetable sauces, etc.

AmericanPastoral · 19/03/2017 02:00

Thanks everyone-maybe I'll take it out of the box tomorrow...

I have one that I use almost exclusively to slice cabbage for coleslaw - but it's worth it just for that I find. Occasionally try other things.

PhoenixJasmine · 19/03/2017 06:13

I found one in the back of the cupboard the other day Blush how do you julienne with it?

claraschu · 19/03/2017 06:19

I use mine all the time. It is great, but you do have to be very careful!

AmericanPastoral · 19/03/2017 08:56

Don't you have one of those holder type things? Or are they dangerous even with those?

Lost count of the number of injuries I've had. My has a rubbish guard. Once cooked dauphinois pots with both hands in food bags because the blood kept leaking out of plasters!! Grin
