Does anyone use a mandolin for chopping veg?

I've bought the Salter Mandolin, on offer from Sainsbury's, but haven't taken it out of the box as I'm not convinced I would use it. Thanks.

No - it's one of those things that I have but is gathering dust at the back of the cupboard....

Oh, I was SO tempted to get it out of the box today. I want to be convinced that it is the right thing to do even though it will probably share your one's fate...

Not used one since I took top off my finger when using it and won't be using one ever again.

I do on occasion if I'm batch cooking but other that that, it rarely sees the light if day.

Yes, they're really amazing! You can mini-baton a whole carrot in 30 secs. Mine has a guard so no injuries. Goes in dishwasher too.

I mainly use mine for potato gratin and pickled cucumber.

Petrified to use mine :(

Yes - leeks, potatoes (for gratin, boulangère, top of hot pot etc) hidden vegetable sauces, etc.

I have one that I use almost exclusively to slice cabbage for coleslaw - but it's worth it just for that I find. Occasionally try other things.

I found one in the back of the cupboard the other day how do you julienne with it?

I use mine all the time. It is great, but you do have to be very careful!

Don't you have one of those holder type things? Or are they dangerous even with those?

Lost count of the number of injuries I've had. My has a rubbish guard. Once cooked dauphinois pots with both hands in food bags because the blood kept leaking out of plasters!!
