Meals that can be reheated later in the evening

Could anyone kindly recommend any meals that will work well to be cooked early on in the evening, for my dinner, but that my husband can reheat a portion later on when he gets in?

We are eating completely separate meals at the moment but as he has started new shifts I want to make some healthy meals to ensure he gets to eat something half decent. (No fish though :))

Thanks.

Anything you can cook in a slow cooker!

I've just mad a lasagne that will be eaten by dts and reheated for me and then dh will have his portion.

I find anything in a sauce and/or fairly wet works well so
spag bol
shepherds pie
pasta bakes/macaroni cheese
stews/casseroles
lasagna
moussaka
curry

We eat a lot of home made soups - something like minestrone or bacon lentil and veg, or Tuscan bean can make a really healthy meal, and almost tastes better when reheated.
Meatballs in a tomato sauce. Slow cooked stews - Beef and Guinness, or Irish stew....v easy and delish.

Thanks for the ideas. I've not had meatballs for ages so will get some of those. Lots of ideas to go on there.

Just be careful with rice, DH gets in micj later than me and microwaves whatever I've cooked and adds uncle bens rice, if it's not reheated to the exact temperature it sn give you food poisoning!!

Just seconding the warning on rice. I ate reheated rice once - the cramps were worse than labour!

Never again.

Rice will be fine so long as you put your DH's portion on the fridge quickly.

I often do this.

Mainly beef stew
Pork chop casserole
Curry
Roast chicken dinner (then just make fresh gravy - bisto best or similar)

I find anything made with sauce keeps well

Just another tip- I make several portions of mashed potato so that sometimes I might just cook sausages or similar fresh yet no hassle / peeling veg etc. I freeze yhr mash in strong sandwich bags

Thanks for the warnings on rice, but I'm not a massive rice cooker anyway, if we have it, it is normally the microwave bags so he can heat his own up when needed.

I never knew you could do that with mash, that will be really handy , thank you!

We went through a few meal ideas last night , so have quite a bit to go on and a massive shopping list now Smile
