What to serve with baked ham?

I'm currently boiling a ham, which I usually finish off in the oven and serve with chips, veg and a poached/ fried egg.
DH isn't really fussed on this meal (though the kids love it) and I think it's because it's fairly dry, no sauce, sides etc.
What else could I serve alongside a ham to vary the offering, I'm wondering about cauliflower cheese but would love to hear how other people make this into a tasty meal.

This really is the best ever, cabbage, red or savoy, I don't mind which.

Can I ask a really stupid question?
Is a gammon joint the same thing as a baked ham?

Dh loves a ham at Christmas time, we have it with spiced braised red cabbage with apples, plus the usual roast trimmings.

Whenever I see a gammon joint at the supermarket and suggest getting it for Sunday lunch, dh turns his nose up and says he doesn't like gammon.

Is he being a tit, or are they different things?

He is indeed Eminy Grin. Gammon becomes ham when you cook it.

thanls that's what I thought. He has his funny ways my dh.

You made me Smile eminy which is good because I am not well and [smiles] are lacking!

I do roasted root veg: potato, sweet potato, carrots, parsnips and cheese sauce. And a green veg on the side. DH doesn't like cauliflower cheese.

We've had this for tea! Gammon, mashed potato, peas and cauliflower cheese, then cold the second day with jacket potatoes and beans.

Just made pea and ham soup with mint from the left over ham we had from Sunday. I like ham with jacket pots and all the rest but favourite has to be the soup.

Cauliflower cheese and/or dauphinoise potatoes too, plus maybe runner beans and carrots.

DermotOLogical · 14/03/2017 18:30

Mash, peas and parsley sauce. Tis the only way.

Mac Cheese is amazing with ham, could add some cauli too. Nigella has a super easy suggestion using evaporated milk and egg rather than roux but any will do. Can have veg alongside or part of mac cheese.

Orangebird69 · 15/03/2017 00:07

I have cooked for a living and can make most sauces myself but for parsley sauce, nothing is better than Bisto Parsley sauce granules. I could actually drink the stuff. Blush

Twistmeandturnme · 15/03/2017 08:56

How did the cauli cheese go down with your DH OP? Better than chips and egg?

cdtaylornats · 15/03/2017 15:12

Spicy Pineapple Salsa
Chips
